Reoccurring kernel panic - installing Mountain Lion, iMac

1) Just installed lion and it restarted and got the black screen that says "You need to restart your computer". Kernel panic reoccures every time I restart.

1a) zapped PRAM

2) Still occures when booting in safe mode.

3) Unplugged all devices from back of computer.

4) Ran disk utility from Original DVD (snow leopard), and disk permissions.

5) Still getting kernel panic on startup.

6) Tried cmnd-r on startup, ran disk utility.

I can quit disk utility and select my HD as startup and reboot back into 10.7.4

But I can't upgrade to Mountain Lion.

Thanks for the suggestion etresoft. I've now removed these two now:

com.pgp.iokit.PGPwdeDriver 1.2.0d1
com.rim.driver.BlackBerryUSBDriverInt 0.0.74

But still getting the problem and this was the last dump. Any other hints I could try?

Jul 26, 2012 10:47 AM in response to John Romadka

I had the same problem as well.

To BYPASS the problem and get back to Lion:

1) shutdown

2) hold option key immediately after starting

3) you should see two drives to boot from: one is your standard mac HD, and the other is the mountain lion installer. Select and boot from your standard drive

To FIX the issue:

1) follow instructions here to reset PRAM/NVRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

2) reinstall mountain lion

Let me know if that helps out!

Ended up having to install PGP whole disk encryption again, decrypted my disk, uninstalled it. Then used these (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=manually%20remove%20pgp%20whole%20disk%2 0encryption%20macintosh&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CHQQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.syman tec.com%2Fbusiness%2Fsupport%2Findex%3Fpage%3Dcontent%26id%3DTECH149057&ei=kb0RU JDxDMyM6QGxw4GwBw&usg=AFQjCNGHEQqPDyUsnuJfe4s75BvuIEcsWw&sig2=pIGhwV9p5eR6Z_8XOS kqRw) instructions to manually remove any other trace of it.

Then restarted and ran Mountain Lion installer. Boy what a lot of work.
