I did not purchase from the ap store, rather a physical copy.
Software Update takes one to the ap store, which doesn't address this update for me.
The iWork Updater doesn't work with it either (says Keynote is not installed).

I was able to upates in 10.7.4 using the Software update in the Apple menu. Try installing Keynote from your original media, then select the menu item " > Software Update..."
In mountain lion it seems that software update just refers to the ap store. No "checking for updates" window. Rather the ap store/ updates opens.
In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have tihat needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window. This is a screenshot of my updates earlier today when I had the iWork update under Software Update & some Mac App Store-purchased apps that also needed updating.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
Tried that, still no luck. It may be an issue of needing a "stand-alone" updater, since I purchased Pages and Numbers ala carte, and did not purchase iWork in it's entirety?
The ap store asks me to use Software Update which takes me back to the Ap Store.
I have both Pages and Numbers in a folder titled iWork'09 in the Applications Folder.
If you originally purchased Pages & Numbers through the Mac App Store they do not need to be in a folder named iWork '09. You can get to the standalone updater from this page. But if you originally purchases/installed iWork '09 from a retail disk or downloaded trial all three applications must be in the iWork '09 folder. Even if you never use one of the apps, you can't delete it as the '09 updaters are a single unit that updates all three at the same time.
I originally purchased Numbers 09 through the Ap Store, bottom one on the list attached. (Just purchased Pages 09 also; owned Keynote as part of iWork 08). The ap Store won't let me update Numbers 09. Are you saying I have to purchase Keynote 09 to update Numbers to the Mtn Lion version?
No, you don't need to buy Keynote. That is one of the benefits of purchasing from the Mac App Store, you can buy just the apps you want.
Your screenshot shows the Numbers is available for download. That means you have already purchased it & either haven't downloaded the app on that Mac or you haven't downloaded the update. What happens if you click the Updates button? You should see that "install" button change to "update."
When I click on the "Install" button, the dialog box I posted above (mtn lion pic) comes up "Numbers already installed, choose Software Update...."
I have the same problem. Have Numbers 09 and Keynote 09 both purchased separately. I tried updating to the Mountail Lion updates but encountered similar problems as you did. Decided to purchase Pages before I had read Peggy's reply that one doesn't need to buy all three aps to update. Anyway, it's already downloading. Will see if the updates will proceed after installing this third app.
Just downloaded latest Pages 09. Tried updating Numbers 09 and Keynote 09 using Software update (which brings you App Store updates -- NO UPDATES AVAILABLE. Still the same problem. Tried putting all three in an iWork'09 folder as well. Didn't work.
I'm out of ideas guys. My iWork '09 apps were installed from the DVD purchased way back in January, 2009. Since it was a family pack I have no need to buy any of them from the Mac App Store until Apple ever releases a whole new version.
I'm having exactly the same problem - can't update to 2.2. The only reason I updated to Mountain Lion is so that I can sync my spreadsheets from my Ipad to my Mac - no luck. Help.
App store customer service has suggested I delete Numbers and reinstall from the app store; it should install the latest version. I will give that a try and report back.
Yes, tried that. It comes up with "An eligible Keynote application was not found in the location /Applications/iWork '09." I don't have Keynote - I downloaded Numbers as a separate entity.
How do I update Numbers to 2.2 (mtn lion)
