airplay

I have installed the mountain lion update, and I have my Apple TV going. Can anyone tell me how to use AIrplay to project my Mac's screen to the HDTV?

I do not have any icon in the menu bar once I walked over to the TV. I had an icon in the menu bar, which i assume it was for that purpose. Once I walked over to the TV with my laptop. Nothing.

Thanks in Advance,

AppleTV 2

My apologies, just a copy and paste from a friend. You are right, not a blunder, sorry. Correction made, was trying to be useful.

No, I think that was a helpful post too.

Airparrot clearly demonstrates that older Macs can attempt Airplay in software.

I tried it on my 2008 Mac Pro - seems to work fine, just that it cannot mirror DVD player and I suspect certain other app/content - probably applies to Airplay compatible Macs too.

There are other problems with software only AirPlay, particularly involving MacBook Pros/MacBooks of an older variety and my MacPro has particular issues with Airparrot compared to mirroring with my MBP on Mountain Lion. This is not new from Apple on OS X or iOS, if the approach does not meet their standards they will not attempt it. And there really are too many examples to mention.

For those who want to try it they can use Airparrot.

I do think it was a helpful post, I just disagreed with the labeling.

AC,

I just read on a post that it's b/c of copyright similar to why we can't do a screen cast of a movie playing.

JB

That would not surprise me in the slightest.

People want to use their devices legally in ways the movie/TV companies are slow to recognise.

All that happens is paying customers get inconvenienced while those who won't pay will just download stuff illegally regardless.

I understand.

I think it depends on your nature - some people would say give me the feature so I can see for myself and if my hardware won't cope I'll accept that's the issue. Others would just carp that it didn't work. Apple loses face either way.

I think this Airplay issue however could have been handled a bit better in the advertising - many of the other 'features' are pretty inconsequential.
