After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Belkin hub is having sustantial issues.  The hub no longer works.  The only temporary fix is to shutdown and restart the computer.  It then works again for a little while, but then for some reason after a bit of time it stops working again and you have to shut down again to get it to work.  Things connected directly to the USB port (NOT through the hub) works just fine.  Strange.  Any possible permanent fix anyone know of?

    You haven't sketched any details about the nature of your hub problems. However, there's one fix that works most of the time:


    1. With your machine on, pull all the data cables from your machine. All you have is your computer and your power.

    2. Reboot your machine.

    3. Reinsert all of your USB and Firewire devices.


    Why should this work? Sometimes, your computer must remap its ports. Rebooting with data cables out resets the ports. When you're connected again, the Belkin hub should work fine.

    Sorry I thought I was clear about what the problem was.  Also my original post shows I already did exactly what you suggested.  Yes restarting causes the hub to work again, but then after an hour or so it stops working again.  Things connected to the USB port on the Macbook Pro work just fine, but not when they are connected to the Hub.  It work for a little while if I restart my computer, but then goes out again soon after.

    Add me to the list. I am having the same problem. Also using Belkin. I am presently using another Hub and everything is fine. i think this is limited to Belkin hubs.

    I am having the exact same problem.  Tried the pram reset.  It did not fix the problem.

    Could be hardware incompatibility with Mountain Lion, has this been reported to Belkin?

    I too am having this problem after upgrading with my Belkin F4U017 USB hub.  System profiler recognizes the device, but the passthrough from connected devices through the hub is not functional.  Restarts of my machine do not make the device temporarily available for use.

    I have a F4U041V Belkin 7-port hub that is connected to

    a 2011 Mac Mini Server and is working just fine.  It is

    a powered hub.


    Perhaps the issue is hub model specific or Mac model

    specific or a combo.


    USB memory sticks work without a problem and my iPhone 4S

    synced through it without issue.

    I am using the exact same model as you are.  However, my hub is connected to Late 2010 Mac Pro, even the wireless receiver for my kb/mouse was not recognized when it was plugged into the hub.  The hub worked absolutely fine until the completion of the upgrade process to Mountain Lion.

    Same problem for me!!

    My belkin hub always worked (since almost two years) but now, after the upgrade to 10.8, it's useful like a stone.

    If you're seeing this problem, please run the Console app (in /Applications/Utilities).


    1.  Look in both the system.log and kernel.log files for any errors related to USB or HID (human interface device, e.g. keyboards, mice).


    2.  Plug and unplug devices into that hub and see if there are any additional USB or HID-related log messages.


    3.  Unplug the hub and plug it back in.  See if there are any additional USB or HID-related log messages.


    Post the log messages (or the absence thereof) in this thread.  Thanks.


    Also, post whether you are using it with an external power supply or not.
