Final Cut Studio on Mountain Lion?

I'm looking to get a new iMac, but I will need Final Cut Studio 2 to work on it because i'm not planning on upgrading my editing software anytime soon. Will FCS2 work in Mountian Lion?

I'm trying to find out if it will run on Mountain Lion as well. In your case though, if you buy a new iMac, you will not be able to run the installer to run the apps. If you transfer it over from an older machine it may work. The reason is that the Final Cut Studio 2 installer disks are 32bit, which is no longer supported once Apple moved to Lion.

You are correct about the installer. Don' know why I said 32bit when I meant PowerPC. As I stated, FCS 2 does run in Lion (I am currently using it) but I had to install it from Snow Leopard. I was not able to install Rosetta on Lion. The original poster mentioned that they would be buying a new iMac, so there would not be a 10.6 installer disc to get Rosetta from anyways.

GLmedia66: Rosetta was created by Apple when they made the move from PowerPC processors to Intel so that old software would still run on the new Intel systems. Later versions of OS X required you to optionally install Rosetta if you still needed to but this option was removed in Lion.

You wont be able to install Snow Leopard on a new iMac without doing a lot of hacks, which I would not recommend. Last time I checked, even if you have the Snow Leopard disc, you can not successfully install Rosetta on Lion. What you can do is install Snow Leopard on a external hard drive and run the installer from there and choose to install FCS to your Lion/Monutain Lion drive.

Nick: Trying to install Rosetta from my Snow Leopard retail disc onto Lion did not work for me. If you search online, there are plenty of people who have tried as well and did not have any success. I'm not sure how you happened to be the lucky person to accomplish it that simply. It is my understanding that there is additional code within the OS that is required and missing for Rosetta to properly function in Lion.
