I'm not able to update my iPad

Could you please explain your problem in a little more detail.

I was updating my ipad and it just got stuck and the only picture on the screen is the cable plugging into iTunes symbol. I have done this like seven times and it wont updated once iTunes downloads it it always says cant install error message and I cant get my ipad to do anything should I just trash it because there is so much personal info on it if anyone ever did get it to work. can anyone help me to figure this out please I need it for work everyday and has all my work stuff on it as well.
