Itunes won't accept my credit card

whenever I try to put in my credit card info, I put everything in correctly and then when I get to the security number point and I put in the correct number, it says that I need a valid security number. I have never had issue with itunes or the app store ever until this morning when I tried to download mountain lion and it kept saying card declined. I know I have money in there, bought lunch today even a few things on itunes and the app store to make sure and they all went through. Ever since I tried another card and tried going back to the one I originally had on my account, everything has been screwed up. I seriously have no idea what to do. Please help!

Hi tskane,

So I take it that you have gone into your Apple account and edited your Credit Card information?

If not, go into your account in iTunes and delete your CC by selecting the None option and Save

Then go in and re-edit it and put your info back in (make sure your expiration date is correct as well) and Save

Hopefully that will fix the problem. If it doesn't then contact iTunes support.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

The security code message can also be triggered by any slight difference between your bank's record of your address and the address you submit. Check that you are entering it exactly as shown on a recent staterment.

See this: iTunes Store: My credit card's security code or zip code does not match my bank's records, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646

Thanks but I've already tried that. Its saved under none now and whether I go to edit my account myself or edit it when I make a purchase, it reverts back to none. Its like basically stuck on not accepting any cards of any kind. even like prepaid gift card types. Tried calling itunes customer service and they told me to visit the FAQs sections.

Like when I selected None, hit the done button, and then went back to edit my account info, the first thing that pops up is that I have no credit card on file and the "none" option is highlighted among the 6 options (visa, mastercard, american express, paypal, discover, none). I then click on my card which is a visa and then put in all my information only to see the security number error again.

I appreciate your replies. I really do.

Hi again,

Well I did some digging and think I found the content of the email that iTunes support would send you (eventually), so pasting it just below. Also, in that thread, there was a mention that this issue can occur when the servers on the credit card end are busy, and trying again later just works (so there's that possibility). Finally, the user writing the thread stated if all else fails, you can call iTunes support back and let them know you have exhausted all troubleshooting efforts, insisting firmly but pleasantly that they need to work with you to get this resolved. So, here is the email with a different set of steps for getting it to work (italics and bold mine). I hope this works for you!

+I understand that you have been receiving an error message when attempting to enter a valid security code. I realize how much of an inconvenience this can be. My name is **** and I will be more than happy to assist you with this issue until it can be resolved completely to your satisfaction.+

+Many customers have resolved this issue by temporarily removing their credit card information from their account. Here are the steps:+

+1) Visit the Apple Store online:+

store.apple.com/ca

+2) Click Account in the upper-right corner, then click "Change account information" and sign in using the same Apple ID and password you use for the iTunes Store.+

+3) You should see your account-profile page. Under Method of Payment, remove all of the characters from the Card Number field. Do not change the expiration date or credit card type.+

+4) If you haven't already, select where you primarily use your purchases from the pop-up menu near the bottom of the page.+

+5) Click Continue. If you are asked to enter any other information, be sure to click Continue after making the updates so that your changes will be saved.+

+6) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. It can be downloaded free of charge:+

+Note: Installing the latest version of iTunes will not affect your library or any items in your account that you haven't downloaded.+

+7) Click this link to open iTunes and access the Apple Account Information page:+

+8) Sign in to the iTunes Store using your account name and password.+

+9) On the Apple Account Information page, click the Edit Payment Information button.+

+10) Enter your payment information and click Done to save your changes.+

+To ensure your account is functioning, try downloading a free item from the iTunes Store. To do this, navigate to the iTunes Store main page by clicking the Home icon near the upper-left corner of the window. Scroll down and click the "FREE ON iTunes" link near the bottom of the main page, then select an item to download.+

+Should you continue to experience difficulty after following these steps, or if you encounter an error message when removing your credit card information, please reply to this email and provide the following information:+

+- Your permission to reset the password+

+- The billing address listed on the account+

+- The name and artist of the selection you are unable to purchase or download (if applicable)+

+Upon receiving your response, the iTunes Store will verify your billing address, reset your password, and test your account. You will then receive an email with your new password and further instructions. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Have a great weekend!+

+Take care.+

Sincerely,

****

I had the same issue. Couldn't change my card number, then couldn't change security code—both errors happened apart from each other. My account was verified but iTunes told me otherwise.

Turns out it was some buggy thing associated with the Express Checkout Settings. You need to turn that off before you can change any credit card info. Here is the link: http://store.apple.com/us/help/your_account

Scroll to the bottom area and follow instructions. Section is pasted here:

Express Checkout Settings

To access your Express Checkout account settings, log in to Your Account and click the “Update express checkout settings" link. From here you can turn Express Checkout on or off, or edit your preferred shipping and payment information. If you’d like to change your credit card information, you must first turn off the Express Checkout option.

Good luck!
