Thnx, but cannot do anything mentioned in the article. I am stuck in the very first screen where my login name is and thepassword is requested. I am also the admin of this mac... Excuse my ignorancebut iam very newto apple...
Just to confirm, I think you're saying that both of the following are true:
1. FileVault is not enabled; and
2. You have not associated an Apple ID with your account.
Hi,
1. No i never enabled firevault
2. I have an apple id with my account. The passwd is useto login in my computer is the same as my apple id passwd.. I checked on my ipad and i can still login to my apple id, but notin my computer.
Also, im not sure about the os i have, i think its osx? Anyway, its abrand new mac book air, with 13", i7 jst bought it last month...
You would have had to associate the Apple ID with your account previously, as described in the article. That means in the past, you would have had to go to System Preferences --> Users & Groups --> Apple ID and set it up.
If you did that, you can click the question mark next to the "Password" prompt and proceed as the article says. If you didn't do that, I don't know what to suggest.
Yes i did all what you are saying and put the ? In the passwd field but nothing happens. Problem with the keyboard maybe? I installed also different languages and i dont recall atwhich language i was before the computer went to sleep mode... Does it revert to the default keyboard when awake?
Don't put a "?" in the password field ... instead, you should see a "?" on the Username - Password display that you should click!
No i dont see that. Passwd field is empty and writes Password i grey characters. Whe i type the first character is shows -->on the right... Then it flickers showign passwd is not correct... What can i do?
Look where that arrow is on the right ... before you type that first character, it should be a question mark.
Click that question mark!
There is no question mark...
If you entered a password hint, you will see it after 3 incorrect password entry attempts (if you set up the account that way, which is the default).
If all that fails, I think you'll have to reinstall the Operating System and go through a "reset password" exercise.
Thnx for your help... One last question..
-How can i reinstall the os, my mac did not come with a cd or something...
Here's a good article explaining a few options: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Basically, one of these 2 approaches will get you started:
1. Hold down Command and "R" as the Mac is starting up. You can let go when you see the Apple logo. (This is the approach in the article.)
2. Hold down the Option key as the Mac is starting up. Let go when you see the Startup Manager display. Click the up arrow below the "Recovery HD" icon.
Thnak you for your great help....!
Lastly ( honestly last) will that process erase all my data in my computer? All i care are my pictures ...
Thnx again...
I believe it will erase all your data.
But if you're using iCloud (Photo Stream) to hold your pictures, then you'll be able to get them back!
