I also have a Sharp TV, which was working fine with my Macbook Pro and HDMI cable when I was running Lion, but as soon as I upgraded to Mountain Lion, it won't work at all. I've tried connecting to other TVs, some work, some don't. Anyone have fix?

Is there any update from Apple on this? I'm trying to connect my Macbook Pro Retina with to my Panasonic 46" and it recognizes the hdmi connection then just drops to a black screen. Oddly, it seems to work ok on my Panasonic 42" tv for whatever reason. It worked fine until the last Mountain Lion update.

I would really love to hear some type of Apple update on this...for a $3000+ computer there have been quite a few issues and I haven't seen much in terms of acknowledgment that these issues are being worked on.

thanks!

Hi

yesterday for the 1st time I tried to connect my MBP 15" Retina Display to a Sony TV Bravia KDL-26M 4000 through HDMI but it didn't work. I got a 1st messages "Invalid Format" and after NO signal on TV and the computer monitor became black.

Today I went to visit a Genius at the Apple Store and as soon as he connected the computer to a TV, with the same cable, it worked... Just plug'n'play.

I came home I tried again:

1.- I connected the HDMI cable with TV Off

2.- I connected the HDMI cable with TV On

3.- I disconnected the power cable of the TV and I waited 30"/45" and reconnected

4.- I turned Off and On the computer

5.- I plugged In and Out severals time the HDMI cable, and I tried the 2 different ports

6.- I even tried to change the resolution on the computer but on the MBP Retina Display you can't do to much

7.- an many more

but NO success, still got the messages "Invalid Format"...

I'd like to add that the other devices connected to the same HDMI ports on that TV are working, means the TV is working

some help will be appreciate

thanks

I fixed my problem by trashing all of the com.apple.windowserver.plist files I could find on my system (they were located in Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences). After that I did an NVRAM reset, then my problem was solved. Here's a link explaining how to reset the NVRAM:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

NOTE: You may have com.apple.windowserver.plist files in your user profile library preferences too, trash these as well. You will have to go to the menu bar and select Go > Hold down alt (this will reveal your user profile library) > Library > Preferences then locate the files (if they are there, I didn't have any but others have said they may exist).

Hope this helps, it worked for me.

Seems I'm so lucky (at least at the moment). I have 13" retinal display MBP, I plug in the HDMI cable to TV and it worked fine. But the second time I plug in, the TV screen turn green although the connection is established on computer. After several unplug and plug again, it worked again.

It seems that the MPB is not so stable and probably not well developed for HDMI connection, because I haven't heard about this kind of problem happen on all other AV devices. Another factor may be the different brand of TV that may not be compatible with MBP display card. Hope Apple can do something (?update of firmware) to correct it.
