If I pause the download of Mountain lion the download resumes from the beginning...how can I resume the download from where I have paused?

You can't. You can on some downloads, but for OS integrity, a complete download will be performed whenever you pause an existing download.

This ensures the data is complete and helps prevent issues with corrupted files which could potentially render a system inoperable.

If your internet connection is unreliable (or drops frequently), there's not much that can be done.

Apple did launch a Lion thumb drive, but I have no knowledge as to whether they will (or won't) offer a Mountain Lion thumb drive.

If you have an Apple Retail Store near by, book a Genius Appointment and take your Mac into them and see if they can use their super duper fast broadband to download and install Mountail Lion for you.

Oh Thanks for this thread & info, I was about to pause my download; but I thought to search first. Gotta wait then ....

I can confirm that I paused the download and resumed it in 15 minutes. It resumed fine.

Still times out @ 4.12 GB though :/

I will now pause, and restart the sytem and check if it still resumes.

Earlier I was unable to resume without the download resetting itself back to zero and re-downloading all over again.
