Mac Mini Server (2011) won't go to sleep anymore

I updated from Lion to Mountain Lion yesterday. Since then I am totally unable to bring my Mini to sleep. Does anyone has a similar problem ?

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion, i5 + i7, @TV 3, iPhone 4S, iPad2

Some extra information:

- I have no USB device connected (except my Monitor)

- I have not modified anything else except upgrading the OS.

All I have in my logs everytime I try to put my computer to sleep is the following:

I have the same problem on my iMac (Mid 2007), it will not sleep after the upgrade to ML.

I have removed all connections, rebooted, checked the disk and permissions, reset SMC und PRAM, started in Save Move, used a clean user account. Nothing did help, I cannot bring it to sleep. It turns off the screen, but keeps running.

I'm having the same problem with Mountain Lion on my Mac Pro (Early 2008). Can't use the Apple menu or the power button to put it to sleep. Worked fine before I upgraded.

With all 4 hard drive slots filled, it's sucking down a lot of power (not to mention generating a ton of heat). The only possible cause I can think of might be the eSATA card I have in it. I'll try taking that out.

Ok, I obviously have this same issue since /usr/sbin/named prevents the system from sleeping, I have no idea though how the Local Service got started in the first place. Since I have not installed the Server component, I have also no idea how to disable the DNS Service. I have removed 127.0.0.1 as the DNS Server but this is a client config option and has no impact. Your help is welcome.

You can use this command in the Terminal:

pmset -g assertions

The output will give you something like this:

Assertion status system-wide:

PreventUserIdleDisplaySleep 0

PreventSystemSleep 1

PreventUserIdleSystemSleep 1

ExternalMedia 0

UserIsActive 0

ApplePushServiceTask 0

BackgroundTask 0

Listed by owning process:

pid 28(named): [0x000000080000012c] 02:22:09 DenySystemSleep named: "org.isc.named.denysystemsleep"

pid 1280(iTunes): [0x0000000100000372] 00:10:46 PreventUserIdleSystemSleep named: "Nameless (via IOPMAssertionCreate)"

As you can see the named service is the reason of all my problems 🙂 ... still don't know how to deactivate it.

Sorry to be unhelpful, but Lion did this to me and I tore my hair out trying to find the config issue causing it, until Apple finally released a fix in something like 10.7.4 or 5.

Very disappointing it took them so long, but it was a clear bug in the code I assume as it was there one day and gone after an update. You may have just found that ML has introduced this again; if so I hope Apple fix it quicker than they did with Lion......

Perfect, thanks. In my case, it's slapd (LDAP daemon). No idea why it's running or how to stop it (other than using kill, but that only works until the next boot).

I used to know how to configure the starting and stopping of system daemons back in OS X 10.1, but it's been ages. I seem to remember that Apple likes to change their underlying system service structure on every new release as the BSD server admin world discovers weird and wonderful needs which require more and more levels of indirection and configurability. Oh how I miss the simplicity of editing rc files in the Linux world (what I use for my home server)...

Anyways, I'll look into it and post what I find.
