Q: Software Update Server URL in 10.8 still the same?

Hello everybody,

I just upgraded my Mac Mini to 10.8 (Mountain Lion) from the previous OSX Lion Server version. So far I used the command

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://SERVER.local:8088/index.sucatalog

on all clients to point to the SUS on the OSX Server. I am wondering if the same link is still valid for Mountain Lion, as I don't get any updates advertised on the clients (e.g. MBA 2011 10.8), although the OSX 10.8 Server App shows today's updates as enabled.

Anybody successfully used the SUS on OSX 10.8 so far ?

Thanks

This is not specific to your question but may offer insight.  See the following article from Apple regarding where the sucatalog settings are located.  Check yours & make sure you have all the appropriate catalogs in there.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4771

If it's incorrect you can manually change it.  I actually have updated a 10.6 server to download the updates for Lion clients.  I haven't had a chance to test it yet & given Apple doesn't list that as supported I have doubts it will work but the server isn't having any problems downloading the updates (including the 10.8.2 combo).

You can reset the software update back to Apple (provided that you have admin privileges):

    Open Terminal

    sudo su

    Enter password

    softwareupdate --clear-catalog

    exit

    Close Terminal
