How to disable smart search field in Safari 6

Yes. This new feature isn't actually reducing any problem I have today, and its created both a privacy issue for me, and an inconvenience. I prefer to search when I want to, and go to a specific URL when I want to. When I make a mistake in a URL, its inconvenient to have a search launched. I didn't want a search.

Doing things I don't want or expect isn't Apple-like.

I would really love to know this as well. Having tw fields worked much better for me.

I have the same issue. It's forced me to switch to Chrome as my preferred browser.

It has the same feature, but you can create a custom search engine and just have: %s as the search URL, which basically disables the feature....

Same here, this was the first thing I tried to do after installing Safari 6. I often do searches on domain names, and now I actually have to go to Google first before doing a number of my searches. VERY inconvenient.

Come on Apple! I don't want every web address I type in transmitted character by character to someone else, I like my privacy. Having something like this on by default is rude.

I am also unhappy with the integrated search / address bar in Safari 6. Hoping it gets fixed very soon.

I couldn't agree more, this is one of the more ridiculous "features" that Apple has given us. I just sent feedback through the link posted above. Who knows if they even bother to read the feedback but maybe if enough people complain they will change the search function back to the way it was or at least give us the option.

I also strongly want the 2 fields back as they were before. Because of the aforementioned reasons.

another "me too" here. I very much dislike my browser second guessing my intentions, very annoying.

To answer your question. No

Everything you type into the url bar goes to google/yahoo/bing and they can track your behaviour even though you don't use their service. Also personal/private/business domains that actually are confidential or just not intended to be public knowledge.

Actually there's a more serious issue here, and that phishing. I'm in IT security and often want to 'Google' a domain before going there, this breaks that takes me (and any other user doing this) straight to teh phishers page... big fail.
