Q: Kernel Panic! On wake up from sleep.

I just got a notification for an update for Air Display. One of the fixes listed was the kernel panic. I just updated and installed it, restarted the computer, and then tried the mouse/sleep test. No kernel panic or restart! I have the Early 2011 15" Macbook Pro

I had Air Display connector installed when I did the Mountain Lion upgrade. Uninstalling it a while back didn't help, nor did installing the newest version, unfortunately. I still get the crash.

Steps to reproduce are those in the post from Avatron:

1. sleep computer (whether by closing lid, selecting sleep from apple menu, etc.)

2. turn off magic mouse or just take computer out of bluetooth range

3. wake computer. It wakes far enough that I see my desktop background, then I get the grey screen "your computer has crashed" notification.

I've tried resetting my power management settings but that hasn't helped.

This definitely worked for my MBP Retina.  Thank you!

Now I turn off bluetooth before i leave work (where by bluetooth keyboard and trackpad are) and when i got home...  No Kernel Panic!  Wow.  Thank you so much for this post.

Guys, I think the problem's been resolved with the 10.8.1 update. I don't have the problem anymore..

What about those of us using Lion?

I have this issue on a mid 2012 mba. It's pretty clean already but I've removed every single major program with its own kernel extensions. I don't have air display, bluetooth has always been disabled, I've reset pram.

It definitely started after the SMC update. I don't see this being solved by anything but a Lion or an SMC update.

Firstly thank for the post above. Since upgrade to Mountain Lion less than I month ago (20th Nov) I experience more panic kernal crashes than safe shut downs or restarts. Turning off the 'blue tooth device awakening from sleep' has helped but it is not the solution. Sometime a wake from sleep in a couple of seconds, sometimes a worrying 60 to 75 seconds. Anyway here are two log files from two crash (15th Dec, and just now 21st Dec). I this is not resolved soon I will be requesting a refund for the upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leapord, and return to this system as it is much more stable.

Computer sat turned off for 14 hours or so. Just turned it on, typed in password and accepted. Grey screen then half of screen of random looking characters appeared over then grey. Then it looks like panic kernel crash occurred.

I undestood that the problem of crash mountain Lion is Microsoft Office.

When I use stand by with microsoft word opened the system randommly crash!!

I Tested it by 3 weeks, and the problemi is solved.

There's a lot of trial and mostly error going on here.

A Kernel Panic is predominately caused by faulty hardware, incompatible kernel extensions. To isolate the first, and rule out the second, you must uninstall all third-party extensions. This means you must interpret the kernel extensions loaded and figure out what software you installed that brought those along. Then, you must use the uninstaller provided by the developer of that software to uninstall everything.

To see what kexts are loaded, look in this section:

As you can see by this output, there is paragon and avatron kexts loaded (which appears consistent with all the "me too's"). These have to be uninstalled and then test the system.

If removing the kexts stops the KPs, then you need to determine if there is an update for that software.

If you have no third-party kexts installed, and you still get crashes, you need to look at hardware. This can be internal or external. However, you might want to reinstall the OS prior to going to the service center. That may clean up any residual issues caused by the incompatible third-party software.

Another immediate hardware culprit could be RAM. If you had replaced the RAM and you purchased the cheapest sticks you could find, they might be the problem.
