I'm having the same problem with my QNAP TS-112 NAS. It appears that Time Machine is broken in Mountain Lion, at least in relation to non-Apple NAS devices. I don't know if the same problem occurs with a Time Crapsule, since mine died a few weeks ago.
Most NASs that worked on Lion do work with Mountain Lion (as do Time Capsules).
Especially if you upgraded directly from Snow Leopard, it may need an upgrade. Check with the maker.
If that doesn't help, try re-selecting it in TM Preferences.
If still no help, try a "full reset" of TM per #A4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.
I solved the problem with my QNAP by first connecting to the network drive and logging in so that it mounted on the desktop, then selected it from Time Machine Preferences. Now it works as before.
Has anyone with a Seagate BlackArmor NAS tried the procedure above to get it working with ML? I want to hold off on installing ML until I know it will work with my NAS.
Thanks!
I'm having the same issue with the NAS 220. I was wondering if doing a repository cleanup might take care of the issue but I don't want to lose my current back ups.
With the Seagate BA NAS TM wont work. Same like last year with the update to Lion. Seagate needs 5 months to make an update 😟
I will sell my Seagate NAS and will buy me an synology. They have updated their products. No problems at all and support answers questions. Seagate don´t either.
I tried this and it did not work. I asked Seagate whats up and have no answer yet!!!!
Can you keep us up to date on Seagate's response when you get it? Thx
You won´t get an answer from Seagate. I have asked them 3 weeks before (problem exists since ML DEV Preview). The same problem was last year with Lion. Seagate needed 5 months to bring an update to fix the issue.
Hi there
Try this and all will work
In Finder choose GO
Choose connect with server
Type the NAS IP f.i. 192.168.0.100
now open time machine preferences
The nas is now showing as a new drive
Choose this drive
Voila everything works fine now
Good luck
This worked for me. Thanks
