Using AirPlay/Home Sharing with an Apple TV connected to the network with ethernet.

Can an Apple TV (3rd Generation) have AirPlay/Home Sharing content streamed to it, if it's connected to the network via ethernet? I would assume so considering that it is still connecting to the same network, however I don't have the option to do so. I don't want to use my Apple TV on Wi-Fi because I have issues where the content will skip and cut out.
