How can I get notes from iphone to notes on Mac

I have upgradd to Mountain Lion but have many notes on my iphone that are in the "On My iPhone" account and do not sync to icloud and therefore do not show up on my Macs Notes application. How can I get all these notes moved over to icloud account. They no longer show up in Mail 6.0 in OSX ML nor do they show up in iTunes. Is there any way to copy and paste all the notes from the "On My iPhone" account to my icloud account.

thanks

In my case the iPad is storing (and mail.app on snow leopard used to) notes on an IMAP email account. When I use a webmail application to view my mail account directly on the mail provider's server then I can see all my notes as "mail to myself" with yellow background.

Maybe it is possible for you to forward those mails to your .me-address via a webmail application.

Getting the exact same problem as this as well

Although, I did notice a strange occurance.

I opened up the Notes App on my Mac, and it showed all the Notes I have made on my iPhone from when I first got it (May 09) till October last year, which is when I first got my Mac and must have sycned my notes from my iPhone to my Mac via iTunes (The 'oldschool' way as mentioned above)

However, I never remember seeing these notes on my Mac before this? (ie. When running OSX Lion).

I never used the Apple Mail App but could my notes somehow have been placed in there anyway from that one time sync?

I'm thinking about maybe going back in my time machine till before I installed Mountain Lion. Maybe even reveting back to Lion. Where in Mail did the notes live?

I'm thinking if I turn on Notes in iCloud on my Mac & then move these notes in Apple Mail from 'On My Mac' to my iCloud account, this will transistion all the notes to iCloud & I can just delete the notes on my phone, then turn on the 'Notes' option in iCloud settings on my iPhone & they will trickle back down again?

Really frustrating that Notes don't automatically transfer to your iCloud account when turned on for the iPhone. The same way Calenders & Contacts already do. Massive oversite apple...

Sildani,

Can't upload a screen shot of what I described because.... last night I decided that i wanted all my notes in the cloud (instead of having some in the cloud and the others "On my Mac", so I dragged and dropped the notes from On My Mac (in the desktop Notes app) to the Cloud.

This morning when I opened Notes on my Mac, all the Notes that I had dragged to the Cloud had disappeared....they don't show upp in the desktop app (which now only has the iCloud accounts) and the On My Mac categories which were previously there have disappeared....

The strange thing is that on my iPhone and iPad, I now have all the notes and DUPLICATE notes for those I dragged to the Cloud. Like you, both of those devices are showing two categories now (my icloud account and "On my iPhone/iPad". Of the duplicates, one set is sittig in the Cloud account and one set is sitting in the new "On my iPhone/iPad" category....

So I've somehow managed to duplicate your problem!! Seems like the Cloud is working from my Mac, but not to my Mac!

I wish they had a Notes app up on iCloud.com so I could fix things - there's seems to be no way to force my iPhone and iPad to resync the Notes with the Cloud so they will come down to my Mac...

I just tested a new note from my iphone to see if it showed up in Notes on my Mac and it did... so I guess it's working both ways, but the older Notes still aren't there....

I tied turning Notes off in my vloud accoutn on my Mac and then restarting it, but it didn't force a refresh from the cloud...(and didn't offer to Merge).....

My issue is not iCloud Notes syncing (or Google Notes syncing for that matter). My issue is that the new Notes.app doesn't show me my notes from my iPhone synced via iTunes. I now have a bunch of a "orphaned" notes on my iPhone that aren't iCloud notes, and I don't see an easy way of "converting" these notes to iCloud because even after enabling iCloud on my phone, those notes remain off of iCloud anyway.

I'm not typically upset with Apple, but this is pretty crappy. I rely on those notes. The timestamp of those notes have meaning (e.g., a food log where I didn't write the date in the note because I know it was created on XX/XX/XX) so even if I were to sit down and copy/paste each note manually into iCloud, I lose the timestamps. Unless I manually write those in.

I regret ever using this feature.

I get what your issue is... my point was that my notes that had been previously sync'd via iTunes initially showed up in the On My Mac category on my desktop. [Previously they ere showing up in Mail... and when they showed up in the On My Mac category, they were sorted into the mailboxes where they had previously resided.]

When this was the case I only had one category on both my iPhone and iPad, i.e., the email address of my Cloud account. When I moved those notes in my desktop app from the On My Mac category to the Cloud, they not only sync'd to the Clooud but when they appeared in my iPhone and iPad, they appeared in a newly created category on each (On My iPhone and On My iPad) - like you I now have no way to sync thesr nots bck to my mac (as theyhave disappeared from my Mac)...

In the previous version of Mail Preferences there was a checkbox that enabled you to store your notes in your Mail inbox... I am wondering if there's an old Mail plist somewhere that needs to be tossed so that the Cloud doesn't think that you already have these notes (the ones in the On My iPhone category) stored on your computer....

Update:

By signing out of iCloud and disabling notes in Google, I was finally able to get Notes to show "On My Mac" category, albeit empty. I created one test note:

I then signed back into iCloud and renabled Google notes. Now all three show up!

But my notes from my iPhone are still missing from the Mac. 😟

I synced my iPhone via iTunes at this point to see if I can then see my iPhone notes on my Mac (or vice-versa, see the new "On My Mac" note I created in Mountain Lion on my iPhone) but it didn't work.

I have recovered my mailboxes with my previously synced note in the desktop Note app.

If your notes previously appeared in Mail, do this.

1. Go to System Prefs -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars - uncheck Notes for ALL of your accounts (I had previously tried this just by turning off Notes in my main iCloud account and it didn't work).

2. Your will get a warning box saying that all your notes form iCloud will be deleted from your mac but retained on your other devices. Click okay to delete them from your Mac.

3. Quit Notes.

4. Reopen Notes on your Mac and the notes that were previously sync'd to your Mac and were in the previous version of Mail will reappear under a category called "In My Mac."

5. In Mail Contacts, Calendars start with your main iCloud account and recheck Notes - you will be asked whether you want to retain those notes on your Mac or merge them into the cloud...you can retain them under "on my Mac"

6. Continue to ractivate Notes for your other accounts

Sildani,

Prior to upgrading to ML, did your notes appear in Mail? If they did and you follow the steps above you will get them back in the On My Mac category. However, if you never had them in Mail, then the only copies would have been in your iPhone backups... where they will still be whether you are backing up to the Cloud or to iTunes....

I followed those steps. I can now see "On My Mac" in Notes.app but I don't see my notes.

I could see them in Lion 10.7 in Mail.app.

This is what I'm going to do next:

1. Backup my phone.

2. Find a Mac that is running Lion still (from a colleague at work).

3. Create a new user on that computer, don't enable iCloud though.

4. Sync it my phone on this new computer. This may wipe my local media like music and podcasts but it shouldn't wipe out my notes/contacts/calendar etc.

5. Setup Mail with my Google account. Enable Notes in the Advanced Mailbox Behaviors.

6. Fire up Mail. Copy my notes from "On My Mac" to the Google "Notes" folder.

7. Sync my iPhone back on my own Mac.

This should let me see my Notes via the Google notes feature on my own Mac running Mountain Lion.

(What an ordeal.)

Are your previous email boxes where the notes were stored on your compuer pre-ML showing up under the "On My Mac" category? (hover your curson to the right of the catergory name and there's a plus sign.. click on that an dit will open up and show you th mailboxes (now alled folders in the Notes app)
