Q: How can I get notes from iphone to notes on Mac

I have upgradd to Mountain Lion but have many notes on my iphone that are in the "On My iPhone" account and do not sync to icloud and therefore do not show up on my Macs Notes application. How can I get all these notes moved over to icloud account. They no longer show up in Mail 6.0 in OSX ML nor do they show up in iTunes. Is there any way to copy and paste all the notes from the "On My iPhone" account to my icloud account.

thanks

    I have this same problem.

On my phone, when I go to Notes, and then click back to Accounts (top left) I see three entries:

    All Notes

    On my iPhone

    iCloud

"On my iPhone" has all my notes that I've created over the years. iCloud has none, which is expected because I just enabled iCloud on my phone hoping my notes would get placed in iCloud.

These notes used to be accessible via Mail.app in OS X 10.7 (Lion). Now on OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion), I cannot see these notes anymore in Mail.app. And they are not present in Notes.app or Reminders.app either.

I enabled iCloud on my iPhone to see if my notes would switch over, but they stay categorized as "On my iPhone" and don't move over to "iCloud." The iCloud syncing is working fine, I can create new notes in the iCloud account and I can then see them in my Mac. My concern are my already-existing notes. Years worth. Mailing them one by one is not feasible.

Since upgrading I have no way to access my "On my iPhone" notes from Mail any more. And it's not an option in the account preferences: http://imgur.com/z9N5H

So I was hoping to see my notes in the new Notes.app, but this is what it looks like on my screen: http://imgur.com/jX4u0

I see a categorization for iCloud and got Google (the latter is because I have Google notes enabled on my Mac, note: not on my phone). But I do not see a categorization for "On my Mac" (which is what I had in OS X 10.7 Lion wihin Mail.app).

I am considering for the first time jailbreaking my phone just so that I can extract these Notes from my iPhone through unofficial means (like copying the actual Notes database out of the iPhone via ssh). I hope to then restore my phone to factory and get rid of the jailbreak.

But I'm hoping someone with some smarts and a bright idea presents a solution. I am also working on finding one myself.

I had to manually copy them to the iCloud section of Notes.

In Notes on your Mac you can drag them into the iCloud category... (You don't see an "On My Mac" section when you view folders?  Have you used Notes Preferences -> Accounts to indicate which accounts you want to integrate into Notes?)

    pberk,

Thanks for the input. Since the notes created on the iphone are not associated with an account per se but with the device they do not show up in types of accounts listed in the Note Preferences -> Accounts so that is not an option.

Currently, I can just copy all notes to iCloud, but I dont want to manually copy 150 notes which are "On my Iphone" to iCloud.

I'm in the same boat. I have over 300 notes.

I think Notes.app should be showing a category named "On my Mac" that has the Notes that are synced from the iPhone or iPad during an iTunes sync (the old school method). In 10.7 I could see these notes in Mail.app. In 10.8, the logical place for them to be is Notes.app.

Sounds logical Sildani. Notes must get somehow from "On my iPhone" to the Notes.app on my Mac. It has worked before. Hopefully we do not have to wait so long for an update! Apple, can you hear us?

The Notes app (on the Mac) DOES have a category called On My Mac that you can see in folder view... it even shows you where these notes have been "filed" into the various mailboxes....

Is this not showing up for you?   Or are you saying that the mobile Notes app on your iPhone should have this category?

It doesn't show on mine. Here's a screenshot (also in my original post above): http://imgur.com/jX4u0

Just out of curiosity, have you tried changing the default account for Notes on your iPhone to your iCloud account?  Just wondering if it will move  all the notes to the cloud for you...

Could you upload a similar screenshot showing "On my Mac" in your Notes.app?

    pberk,

No in my Notes app I see something like this:

         All Notes

             account #1

                 Notes

              account #2

                 Notes

              account #3

                 Notes

I can add additional folders to each of the account but do not see anything that sasy "On My Mac". What you are describing I use to see in the Mail app but I do not see it in the new Notes application. Would love to see a screen shot of what you are seeing!

I have done this. And it didn't touch my existing notes. I have two categories for notes on my phone, "iCloud" and "On My iPhone." All my existing notes are "On My iPhone" category, with no perceptible easy way to transfer them from one to another.

When I create a note on the iPhone, I can pick the "account" for my note, either iCloud or "On my iPhone." Those that I create on iCloud sync just fine. It's the "On My iPhone" notes that used to show up in Mail.app (10.7) but now don't show up at all.
