1x1 pixel gif problem

When I try to open various web sites, I get a blank screen. The bar says that the gif displaying is "1x1 pixel." I'm not using a firewall. How can I get sites to display correctly?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7)

You're using some kind of ad-blocking proxy or extension.

I was pulling my hair out with this one, as well. Your answer appears to be correct.

I'm using VirusBarrier X6. Clicked the SURF tab; then the Ad Banner Filter. It was ON. Switched it to OFF.

Now, links turn into web pages appear (instead of 1x1 pixel gif).
