Multi-touch gestures not working

Downloaded ML yesterday and everything was peachy - all old gestures, plus Notification Centre. I left the gesture settings on default. Then I left the computer to clean the house, and when I came back hours later I woke the computer up from sleep.

The touchpad responds to the old two-finger gestures (scrolling up and down, swiping between Safari pages, pinch to zoom) plus the new Safari pinch in to flip between tabs. But any other gesture using three or four fingers (moving windows, accessing Launchpad or Mission Control), plus the new Notification Centre two-fingered off-pad swipe, does not work.

Rebooted the computer. Worked for ten minutes. Left it alone. Woke it up after sleep. Stopped working. Rinse and repeat twice before I realized there were issues. I also tried resetting the touchpad gestures (deactivating them, reactivating them, changing them to different gestures), but nothing has worked.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions? I would be grateful for any advice at all, because quite frankly, it bums me out. A lot.

NotesTab

Dropbox

BambooCore

Iomega and Dropbox are checked under the Hide column.

I am having this same issue and read on another forum that this is fairly widespread, hope Apple fixes this with a quick update.

Why is the hard drive listed in your login items??

Take it out. Finder will recognize all connected disks when you boot up.

Remove BambooCore for the time being and NotesTab.

Restart the mac.

Any improvement after restart?

Then you'll be hoping for a long time.

The issue isn't a bug, it's a s/w conflict with something on your system. That's going to be a common experience because a lot of s/w will need updating to work with ML.

You need to identify what app you're using that's causing the problem and that needs to be updated or disabled. Start by following the same procedure I outlined above.

I'm not sure why you assume this isn't a bug with ML; I think there's clearly something odd going on with the 3&4 finger gestures. I have a 15" early 2011 Macbook Pro and lost the 3&4 finger gestures after coming out of one of the stock screensavers. Luckily they came back (for now) after invoking and dismissing the screensaver. Obviously a different issue, but possibly related, and perhaps indicative of a deeper issue.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the suggestions. Everything worked all right earlier today without changing anything, both after shutdown and after sleep. Then I woke the computer up and the gestures weren't working again. So I tried softwater's suggestion, and things have been working so far. Crossing my fingers here.

I am also having this problem. Forcing my iMac to activate the screen saver and then exiting the screen saver restore my 3-4 fing swipes as well.

I have the same issue when awaking my mac from sleep Mission contron dose not work nor can I move from space to space. My mac also gose to sleep ewhen in should not.

Activating the screen saver restored the 3 and 4 finger gestures for me. I put "start screen saver" on a hot corner so that I can easily fix this until its patched.

Lots of people are having the same issue. Hope Apple fixes it soon. The problem is related to the Dock. Restart the dock by typing "killall Dock" (without quotes) into Terminal and hitting return. This is just a temporary fix, but it's faster than restarting the computer. The problem may return next time your wake your computer from sleep.
