Q: How do I stop Mail.app from emailing alerts?

I use Google's calendar and can view it from Calendar (previously iCal) on my Mac.  However, Google's calendar either sends me a SMS text message or an email, or both, depending on how I have my alert set up for the specific event.  Before upgrading to Mountail Lion, iCal suddenly started launching Mail.app to send me an additional alert email.  I turned that off in iCal.  Now with Mountain Lion, the behavior is back, but there's no equivalent setting in Calendar to turn off.  How do I stop Mountain Lion from using Mail.app to send me alerts for Calendar events?

    This is NOT a solution!

The indicated "This fixed my issue" does not fix the issue. It doesn't stop mail from opening when Calendar gets an event that also has a mailed reminder. It simply stops the reminder from being emailed!!!

If I'm not in front of my iMac, then this doesn't send me an indication ... i.e. if I'm logged into a work computer running windows and even if I have my gmail window open, I still won't get an email reminder.

So your "solution" is not a solution.

So start your own thread, this one is marked solved and will receive little attention.

If anyone finds a thread with a solution that stops Mail.app from loading & sending email for each calendar event. Please post a link here too.

Hey Csound1, I've read that solution. I do not see the toggle in the screenshot. I've checked my system preferences, mail preferences and calendar preferences. Perhaps I'll just delete my account from system prefs -> mail, calendar & contacts. Hopefully that fixes it.

It is in Calendar Preferences, but it may look different (depending on the version of Calendar)

This is from 6.0, the current version

    Do you have it (Calendar>Preferences>Alerts)

Don't pull the account from System Preferences.

Csound, this isn't the fix that I am looking for. I would like Mail.app to stop running everytime that I have a calendar event.

I have tried toggling those settings, but it hasn't changed that. Thanks for your help.

    Go to Calendar.app

On the righthand side, right-click the calendar for which you want the alerts to stop

    Click "get info"

Click the "account info" button in the dialog box that pops up

Click "alerts" from the menu across the top

Under the "account" drop-down menu, choose the email account in question (i.e. gmail)

Select "none" for each of the drop-down menus (i.e. Events, Birthdays, All-Day Events)

Check the boxes at bottom for "Turn off shared calendar messages in Notification Center" and "Turn off invitation messages in Notification Center"

    Hope that helps!

    Just my tuppeny'th ...

The "accepted solution" is only part of the story for me.  Changing that setting alone did not fix it, as every time the calendar was resynced with Google, the alerts were re-instated.  This was a particular problem for recurring events (which are the ones you normally don't need so much reminding about!)

So in addition, I had to go through each event and change its description very slightly at the same time as removing the alerts I did not want.

That seems to do the trick for my Mac and the Google calender interaction.

However, I still have the alerts popping up on my iPhone, which is very annoying.  There does not seem to be a corresponding iOS setting :-(

I want to get the pop-up notifications on my Mac, but I don't want iCal to send email notifations – ever.

Is this the problem that causes hundreds of email draft windows to open super fast all over my screen because they each individually want to verify the outgoing server?  Because of this, I cannot open Mail.app.  It is ridiculous.  I would like to video it happening, but because it is calendar events, I don't want to show those.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved, less people are likely to look at it. You can link to this one.
