Why won't Pages 4.2 open a file on iCloud?

I just installed Mountain Lion and Pages 4.2. In the open dialog for pages with iCloud highlighted, I dragged a pages doc to the dialog box. It looks like it works since there is now an icon in the Pages dialog box with the correct file name. BUT it has a little cloud icon and "Waiting" under the document icon. I can open this document on my iPad, but I can NOT open it in Pages on my iMac. OS is 10.8.

Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you. My previous message was regarding a cloud icon that was immediately under the document icon where the date now is in the first screen shot below. I wasn't referring to the iCloud in the upper left. Here are screen shots of what I see. The top one is the dialog box and the bottom image is when I double click on the document's icon or select it and click on open.

It looks like that document is corrupt. I've had that happen. Do you have another device you could try to open it on like an iPhone or iPad?

Now that iCloud syncing is part of the Mac OS, cloud documents are stored in a mobile documents folder in your user Library & you may be able to recover an older copy using Time Machine.

It opens fine on my iPad. Also, tried other documents. Probably 4 others. None worked. I deleted everything I had on the iCloud web site and in this window, which btw did not have the same documents for some reason. Then I put just this one simple and small file in there to test with. It works fine on iPad and iPhone but not on iMac.

According to the documentation you can just drag and apparently that works fine for everything except actually using the file in Pages on the mac.

Tried your suggestion and that still doesn't work. This is so weird. Should I email you the document and see if you can do it. It's very short and just a recipe.

Another thing I just tried is to create a new document from the file open dialog and then to save it to the iCloud. All I get is the whirlygig. I had to force quit pages. So I'm guessing it's not just my Cauliflower recipe that is causing the problem.
