Hi,

I just noticed that httpd is having problems in Mountain Lion...

Jul 26 15:09:40 eagle com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[4576]): Exited with code: 1

Jul 26 15:09:40 eagle com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

Jul 26 15:09:50 eagle com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd[4577]): Exited with code: 1

Jul 26 15:09:50 eagle com.apple.launchd[1] (org.apache.httpd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

The system.log file is growing ;(

I am having the same problem on another machine but in addition it is continuously removing a certificate.

Nothing is appearing in the Apache logs....

Any suggestions?

Jerry

Look at your Apache error logs (/var/log/apache2/error_log) and that should tell why it is exiting prematurely.  This sort of problem is usually caused by a corrupted Apache configuration file.

I was able to clear that issue up by commenting the following lines in my httpd.conf file.

    #Apple specific modules

    #LoadModule apple_userdir_module libexec/apache2/mod_userdir_apple.so

    #LoadModule bonjour_module libexec/apache2/mod_bonjour.so

Restart apache after the changes and then it worked.

    you're a legend!!

i was getting so frustrated and I tried commenting out those lines in the httpd.conf file and it WORKED!

    thanks for this!!!

    Hello,

I was faced off this problem too, after upgrade to 10.8.2, I thought that the update was the problem, but there is not

I google for an answer, and this thread gives me a light.

    I just run the command

    $ sudo apachectl -t

and it gave me the answer, some misskey made the apache conf invalid, I fixed the errors and that's it, now it's working fine

    Regards,

another BAD case is if You miss the  /private/var/log/apache2/   folder.

without that dir, apache cannot start.

    in this case mkdir it:

    cd /private/var/log/

    sudo mkdir apache2

doing so, apache can log to its error files.

Hey. Thanks for the advice thus far but I have the same problem on 10.9 with no resolution... the above solutions don't apply. (No funny apple stuff in apache conf, no permissions problems, logfiles exist, writable, working... and most odd of all... apache is in fact running and working.)

I just don't like the errors in the console... it disturbs me. Any other ideas? TIA.
