Q: Dismount Software

How come software that I have already installed and put into applications shows up under devices when I have it open, do I still need to dismount the software and through it in the trash or what?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1611 is an old article explaining image files, and mounting of image files.  The only change in the new operating systems is that it is done by Disk Utility.   You need to drag the icon that looks like an old floppy drive into the trash.  Then make sure the application can run without it on your desktop, and then lastly you can delete the dmg file.  There is one advantage to keeping your dmg file and that's backing up the installer program, if it came with one.
