I didn't got that quick, sorry.
Actually I meant when the time will come to upgrade the hardware of my mac pro (8 core early 2011),
It will be worthless investing a huge amount of money to upgrade a system where my main daw (logic) it's being treated like this by apple.
I will, instead:
work with ableton 9 or cubase 7 on a windows system, as PC are now more powerful, more upgrade-friendly and cheap than every mac on planet earth.
It's all about Logic for me,
and what its future will be.
Whatever happens, my next Mac will be a Hackintosh. I've just been to two studio's running i7s on Snow Leopard Hackintoshes.... They don't even bother to keep thier DP Nehalems on anymore, just a eBayed hack, a PC with a MIDI passthrough and a G5 wired identically (that particular producer has a penchant for soundfonts made in the late 90s and really old legacy plugins on occasion).
The thing that seals the deal for me is that support is the main reason I pay the premium. I accept that as a professional user, things actually have to Just WorkTM and am willing to put my money where my mouth is on that one, but no amount of spending will fix this issue, or get me a decent new Mac. The DP Pro in my studio was on short term quarterly lease becasue I was thinking Apple would release something new by now. The Mac before it had these issues, as did the Mac Mini I was using at home. If I get this much hassle and zero feedback I may as well add 10% more trouble and save half my money, as well as having the option to specify which version of the OS I can stick with (Undoubtedly Snow Leopard) and the ability to just stick a new processor in my Mac come upgrade day.
Apparently this stuff is legal in Germany too so I'll be speaking to a friend over there so I can have mine made over there then imported here.
Hmmm. Maybe Nusskappe has a point. Obviously the forum is monitored, therefore apple is aware of the "complaints." But, as this issue has been going in for an unacceptable and insane amount of time, maybe we shouldn't be addressing each other. So...
Whats the plan for Logic Pro? Is Logic Pro being fazed out? I don't think many would argue that there's been more than enough time to address the debilitating lag that Has occurred within the DAW/system. Is it the honest truth that Professional audio producers need to let go and invest in other DAW's that continue to work hard to maintain a consistent, dependable and professional operating status for professional audio workflow? I realize this question is being asked via a consumer discussion group. But given the length if time since this group was opened, not to mention the number of posts that continue today, I think we'd all appreciate some honest insight. Not information passed on by the few us that have spent hours upon hours one on one with Logic techs. Not 2nd hand news from Senior Logic team members reassuring specific single users such as myself. I think the time for public enlightenment is overdue. At this stage in the game, I don't think it's too much to ask for you to extend this simple, honest and professional courtesy to everyone.
Thank you in advance.
Professional, Brand Loyal, Logic Pro User since 2006,
Thank you Frederick, very good.
As I understand executives of major IT players like to keep their financial status for their respective department. Thus they carry out a budget battle internally. Since consumer products currently are generating major part of income, they win the battle, which is good for their company and themself. Departments with less arguments for huge budgets loose the battle and qualified staff maybe then leave the company for better perspectives.
With less money and decreasing know how pro applications will suffer from minor budgets. Maybe this is the outlook for our beloved DAW?
Steve Jobs at an Apple product event for the first Macintosh computer on January 24, 1984:
"We're gambling on our vision, and we would rather do that than make "me, too" products. Let some other companies do that. For us, it's always the next dream."
Big brother is not there to continue dreaming for us anymore I'm afraid...
Has there been any word from Apple on this problem? I finally upgraded to Mountain Lion and that decision has rendered logic virtually unusable, since I can no longer listen to playback while a plugin window is open. Ever tried EQing a track by opening the EQ, changing a setting, closing the EQ, listening to playback, stopping playback, re-opening the EQ, adjusting the setting, closing the EQ, starting playback again, etc.? I've starting experiencing playback hang-ups that last 5 minutes or more, during which I have to either force quit logic or sit and wait.
I feel as though I've been punished for upgrading my OS. The thought of having to "downgrade" back to a previous version is horrifying. I'm seriously thinking of giving up Logic and just learning a new DAW - perhaps I would be saving myself time in the long run since Apple no longer seems to care about maintaining Logic. I've invested years and $1,000+ in Logic and its upgrades and now I simply can't use it.
No Zachary. To my knowledge "Apple" hasn't responded. This problem is going on the two year mark. Many long time professional Logic Pro users have switched DAWs long ago. That I know for certain. There's not been any official news from apple. The only thing that's happened with Logic Pro of late is "bug fix" update and Logic Pro thrown on the App Store for $199. That's the ONLY logic news in the last two years.
Best of luck to you. I really feel your pain. Unfortunately that pain for me was months and months ago. I've since been getting up to speed with other DAWs.
Sometimes when you raise a question and get no reply or solution ...silence is consent. Just gotta decide when you wanna take the hint.
Walked out this morning, I don't believe what I saw
Hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone at being alone
Hundred billion castaways, looking for a DAW
