How to logout from mail after checking it on iPad. I am not able to logout. Any suggestions or solution

The iPad was designed to be a portable portal to iTunes. And meant to be a single user device geared towards adults. It has grown beyond that original ideal.

As stated above, the only way to password protect your mail is to use a web interface and not the included mail app.

If you use the mail app you can't. The only way you can log out of mail is to access it via safari and a webmail portal.

Ok I finally found a way to log out from you email on iPad.

Step 1: go to settings

Step 2: click on mail, contacts, calendars

Step 3: click on your mail provider e.g Yahoo, hotmail, etc

Step 4: change it to OFF

And then exit by pressing your main central bottom on iPad, you will notice your mail is no longer active and when you click on mail it will ask you to log on with user ID and password.

I have an iPad 4 and the suggestion by Bexobex does not work for me. Instead of logging on, it asks me to re-configure and set it up again. Others in my family use my iPad and I do not want my email available to whoever picks up my iPad. Seems like a no-brainier - this app is worthless to me. Plus, all messages are in bold font so you cannot tell which mail is new.

Absolutely ridiculous!!! Lets not think of family sharing for costs and just plain sharing your device with a friend at times. PC's and Laptops are shared all of the time!!! What is APPLE thinking...a pretty selfish basis and very user unfriendly. I am trying to logout of the APPLE IPAD we have. My daughter, my husband and I share it. She has to use it for school. We also take it on trips and we all need to view our emails. I have been trying to find a LOGOUT for email and none. I don't want anyone accidentally deleting or moving my emails or showing they have been read when it is not the case.

SHAME on APPLE - it is truly a disgust of their UNFRIENDLY, selfish, basis. Applications are meant to be closed and logged out - but, let's change the world's security thinking to use more resources and less security via APPLE way.

Wow, I won't be purchasing APPLE products for me - I will let my other family members deal with their idiosyncrasies. I have found so much of their functionality to be disfunctional in their process. Many times I type my password with my APPLE ID and to no avail it does NOT work....then finally, all of a sudden it does! My husband has had to change is password several times due to this mystery!
