Mouse cursor disappears.

I, and others, have tried over 25 different suggestions offered in this topic. None has worked for me, and I guess the same applies to others. I have never seen a report that a solution has worked for more than a few days. Apple have been told countless times through their feedback route but no response, let alone a solution. After 2 years it seems that the problem is insoluble and I for one am living with it.

Just wanted to add that I am having this problem as well, seemingly due to Safari. The mouse cursor disappears typically when I work in Safari, and if I quit the app it reappears. Then I launch it again, everything works fine for a while... until it disappears again. Very annoying. Please, Apple, fix this!

Apple isn't here. But, since the bulk of users don't seem to have this problem, you could consider the possibility of a third party software conflict.

After my problem coming and going and now back again.... I have decided that I'm over it all. Just last night, my Macbook just quit again. No ability to click on anything.... dead in the water. So, I shut it down and am making plans to get rid of it. Will I invest in another Macbook... never. Nor will I invest in a PC laptop (my sister's PC last almost 2 years and then she had to buy another). Seems electronics are being designed to quit sooner rather than later.

I decided to take my MacBook in to Apple Care. Just to see how much it would cost. To my surprise, it cost nothing. He called it a courtesty repair/fix. It was the trackpad in my case. My trackpad was replaced and I had to buy a new powercord. My powercord was very hot when plugged in. So I spent $80 total and now I have complete control over my mouse/pointer. I don't know how much this service would have cost if I paid for it.

Perhaps your MacBook quit because of a faulty connection in the power chord. It's interesting that the replacement of the trackpad seemed to fix the mouse. Could you report back in a week to confirm that the fault has gone permanently?

Sure. I'll see how this goes. For a free fixing, I can spare the time 🙂 The purchase of a new cord was my choice. The one I had was the original (3 and a half years old) and I thought it ran too hot. But I didn't want to replace it unless they could fix my Macbook. Also, I didn't bring my cord to the Apple Care store when they were trouble shooting it. The guy was working off my battery.

I'll let you know how this goes. For now, my trackpad is great. My pointer/mouse is working like its old self.

I don't think this will solve it (especially since there are many manifestations of the cursor problem) but this software allows you to manage the 3rd party apps. Always back-up before trying to delete any apps. Also you usually need to restart your Mac for the changes to take effect:

My mouse kept disappearing when using a bamboo tablet but with a regular mouse it is fine. Does anyone else have this problem?

I used to have the bamboo tablet. And my mouse used to dissappear ALL the time. Now I have the Intuous 5 and it still happens but less so. I thought the two were related but alot don't even have a tablet so I am not sure.

Okay, has any sort of solution been found? I tried to read as many of these 25 pages worth of replies, but... I thought i'd skip to the end few pages to see if there was a solution.

I have a mid-2011 21.5" iMac running Mountain Lion with 32gb (yes, 32gb!) of ram.. It did the same thing with 4gb, and 16gb of RAM.

2007 MacBook Pro with 4gb also running ML does the same.. as does:

2008 MacBook Pro with 6gb running ML.

• I have an enlarged mouse.
• I use a logitech wireless mouse (M190 i think?)
• I couldnt narrow it down to any browser in particular, but it happens in Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. Flash-based websites are the trigger
• I do NOT use photoshop. I would guess that Photoshop uses flash...
• Just clicking out of the browser (temporarily) fixes the issue.

Does everyone here use splashtop by any chance? While using a host, I have noticed the mouse do similar things on a PC when a splashtop session is logged in. I havent been able to test on my iMac.

Hopefully this helps towards a cure, or helps with prevention. At this point, it seems as though not using ML is the only cure (albeit by prevention).

one additional thought

Occasionally I boot up in "safe boot" mode - hold down shift key immediately on statup. Here is the support page from apple describing what safe boot mode is and does. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564 I haven't had disappearing cursor problems while in safe boot mode....but I haven't "pushed" anyhting, eg i ahven't opened any other browsers or adobe applications while in safe boot mode.

So perhaps a power user - eg with an intuus table - who is still haveing problems try this out? If the problems are NOT there in safe boot mode then this may help apple techs get the problem solved...or rather get interested in solving the problem!

ps Usually I just startup in safe boot mode for the directory checking type features there (alos on a reccoemdnation form LArry Jordan ina FCP trainign session i took several years ago). I am not having serious cursor disappearing problems anymore - ask me why? I don't know. I do use tech toopls pro regularly to rebuild directories though ...something disk utility doesn't do. Is that a "soluion"? I have no idea...i'm just mentioning it as a possibility.

Just updated a MacPro to 10.8.4 from 10.6.8 and having disappearing mouse problem in Photoshop CS5.5. Any real solution to this issue yet?
