I just got an iphone 4 and when I go to sync it, it appears in the left hand column but when I click on it there is just a blank screen with the apply logo and a tiny lock.

Got an iphone as a replacement by apple store today and got the same problems. Should be some kind of database error from the Apple side if its not working for all of us

No, the point is that Apple DOES NOT PARTICIPATE in this forum in any way. Never has. Read the forum Terms of Use you agreed to when you joined.

The ONLY people posting here are other users, who don't necessarliy have the solution to a new bug or problem, even though you feel entitled to more.

This is absurd! I restored my itunes to find that when I plug it in I get the same blank screen with a silver apple on the top left and a tiny lock on the top right. Below is an empty rectangle. As an itunes store supporter and someone who spends a lot of good money on music, applications, and videos via itunes, I am very appauled that apple has not taken action with this issue. Please help us!

Yet I've had an iPhone 4S since it was first released and have been using Moutain Lion betas for months without any problem...

SOLVED! I was having the same problem, and this is what I did to fix it...

1. Plug your phone into computer (make sure iTunes is open)
2. Put your iPhone into recovery phone: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=367
3. Restore iPhone
4. When iPhone restores, your iPhone will show a welcome/setup screen. Go through all steps.
5. Unplug iPhone from USB
6. You should see your iPhone home screen. Go to "Settings"-->"General"-->(scroll to bottom)"Reset"-->"Erase All Content and Settings"... say yes to eveything so the phone resets.
7. When this is complete, you'll see that welcome/setup screen again. Go through all steps.
8. Plug iPhone into USB
9. Viola! Be sure to setup as new iPhone!

I followed FROMJOEL's advice above and reset the iPhone4 via Settings on the phone. (Then I synced my iPad2 to my MacBook just to see what would happen, and that worked.) Then I set up the phone to the point of "restore from backup," plugged it in, and it recognized it and is now restoring the backup.

Hooray (except for the part where I hadn't backed up the phone since mid-May. Scream.)!

Long story short, Do Not Restore Through Itunes. Back up, unplug, let the phone restore itself, and then use itunes to restore.

I solved it by disabling the sim pin ...

settings -> phone -> simpincode ... switch it off

Having the same problem and my device is unusable !!! HELP!!!!

Apple servers are currently down. Give it a while and they will come back. Their server farm is in NC which is experiencing bad storms right now.
