iPhone shows in iTunes, but no information

Odd situation. I am trying to restore my iphone. I have set it back to factory setting, but now when I connect the device when prompted to in order to restore it from iTunes, it does not display the iPhone page.

On the left side, it clearly sees the iPhone but the only option I have is to eject it. The main page where all of the iPhone information should be is just the Apple logo, a small lock icon, and a big blank box.

I've searched all over the interwebs and have yet to find a solution.

Here's what I have tried:

Restarted iPhone

Restarted iTunes

Restarted MacbookPro

Re-installed iTunes

Set iPhone to DFU mode

I am currently running Mountain Lion with iTunes 10.6.3

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 5.1.1, iCloud

I'm having this exact same issue. I'm running OS X 10.8, iTunes 10.6.3 and IOS 5.1.1 on an iPhone 4s. I've tried to restore the phone multiple times, with no change. During the restore the device shows up properly, but when the phone boots into the initial configuration/setup mode, iTunes suddenly changes and only shows the device but the device information is blank.

I had the EXACT same thing and I have appeared to fix it thanks to Amand99:

1) Make Sure you are running latest Itunes.

2) Plug usb cord into computer with itunes on. DO NOT PLUG INTO PHONE.

3) Do a hard shut down of your phone, where you hold the home and lock button and don't let go until the phone completely dies.

4) Hold down home button for three seconds. DO NOT LET GO. While continuing to hold, plug chord into phone, connecting it to computer. DO NOT LET GO. Hold for an additional five seconds.

5) A window should appear in itunes saying that a phone is connected which needs a system restore.

6) Itunes should allow you to restore and update.

7) Now this was key for me because this might have been my mistake which originally caused this issue. After the restore, Itunes shows the iPhone grey with a spinning wheel (like bofore). I looked at the iPhone and it looked like it wanted me to go through the setup options. DON'T TOUCH THE PHONE. Be Patient, iTunes will eventually recognize the phone and finally ask if you want to restore it. Choose "restore from backup", and let iTunes do it's stuff.

My iPhone is back, Baby! <phew>
