Can you set a due date in Reminders on Mountain Lion?

It seems that there is no way to set a due date for a task in Reminders on Mountain Lion. In Lion in iCal you could set a Due Date that was different than the reminders you could set for a task. It seems obvious to me that reminders are different than due dates. Reminders can occur multiple times leading up to and on the due date (and perhaps even after a due date), but it is helpful to set a due date. Hopefully Apple will bring this functionality over to Reminders from the Lion version of iCal, as this is a downgrade in this one respect for me.

I agree. Oddly, when I installed Mountain Lion, I had a number of tasks in iCal that came into Reminders with the Due Date box and everything. The problem seems to be an inability to create new tasks/reminders with a due date. Instead, all I can do is create a Reminder at a certain time on a certain date but the Due Date check box never appears. Again, this is on new Reminders only.

Thanks Barney-15E, that did work for me too when I tried it. And yes, this is about due dates, not reminder times - those I saw pretty quickly how to handle.

The only issue you with the trick you figured out is that you can't do it for future dates, right? In a way, this defeats much of the purpose as due dates are so often in the future rather than the same day or in the past.

I would imagine they will figure this out and address it pretty soon.

Has anyone figured out how to share reminder lists on a machine running os x server? this was also possible in ical in lion, but no longer with the new Reminders application.

i have another post on this subject, but figured I would ask here to.

I have discovered a workaround. The key is to create your reminders with a due date from within the calendar on iCloud.com. Once you do that, they should then appear in your Reminders apps with the due date option available alongside of the option to set an alert. I have detailed the process with screenshots on my blog:

I sure hope Apple makes an easier way to do this. I'm pretty disappointed in the Reminders app as it stands right now. Anyway, enjoy.
