The Apple AirPorts are designed to only work with other Apple AirPorts using the "extend" feature, so it is unfortunately extremely unlikely that the AirPort Extreme could be configured to work with a D-Link product for this purpose.

All you can do is try to configure the AirPort to "extend a wireless network", but the result will very likely be an error message at the end of the configuration process.

Suggest that you try to return the AirPort and use another D-Link product to help insure compatibility.
