is there a way to see recently installed updates?

So i noticed the software update button on the apple menu up top takes you to the app store update. Do all the os updates come through the app store now? or do they automatically come through the autoupdate?

if it's all automatic like i think it is. is there a list somewhere that i can see all the updates that have been installed? or do they tell you in the notifications?

Well, checking in that location wouldn't show anything for me since I don't have either; so, do you a) have a 2012 machine and b) when you invoked Software Update/checked Updates at MAS - was that an update that was offered or is it being offered now? If it's not offered now, then you either have it or your machine doesn't need it.

I would only download/install system or firmware updates that are being offered automatically - MAS reads and knows your machine, so it knows what it needs (or not).

Why? That just lists some of the plist's contents. | more isn't required to get the entire list. Additionally, it carries all the plist formatting along. Simpler to just drag it from /Library/Receipts/ onto TextEdit, if that's what you want. That said, the System Information.app->Software->Installations gives you a sortable listing of those updates installed, which is cleaner than perusing the plist file.

I have a 13" MBP retina. When I checked software update, it's not offered as an update. Additionally, I've read elsewhere that the 10.8.2. build number changes after the update is installed, and my build number is 12C2034 (i.e. no update has occurred). I've also checked in the Installations report, and it's not listed there. So a part of me still wonders if this is something that is manually installed.
