When I airplay my macbook (15 inch)'s display over to my Apple TV 3rd Generation on 720p 60hz, almost 1/3 of the whole screen is cut off. Changing the aspect ratio doesn't help either and neither does overscan correction. It just seems zoomed in on the top left hand portion of the screen.

Also, I just tried unchecking the Overscan Correction and the display went out for a second, and when it came back the Airplay was using the full screen and not just a tiny 1/4 or 1/3 of the screen. I even checked the Overscan Correction box and it went blank again but came back again using the entire screen. In my case it seemed to be an issue with resetting the system, I would try restarting your computer ultimately.

I had the same issue, I'm using apple TV 4th generation (not the 4k one), and I went to settings>airplay and I turned "AirPlay Display Underscan" off and it worked.

In AppleTV go to Settings>Airplay>Airplay Display Underscan and turn OFF
While Airplay mirroring is active, click on the Airplay icon on the menubar and change the setting to match the resolution to Apple TV instead of This Mac.
Iv got the same problem, and this does not work either
Even if I change the setting to match the resolution of Apple TV, it will still be zoomed in on that upper corner. It is extremely frustrating. I have tried changing hdmi ports and the aspect ratio with no change.
Same problem for me, changing settings makes it worse. I'm using 15" MBP, ATV3 and Panasonic 37" plasma 720p. Not happy, this is the only reason I upgraded to ML.
Hi. An idea was posted in another chain and it totally solved this problem for me:
- in the apple TV settings, I had 720 / 60 selected as the resolution
- changing it to "automatic" solved the problem: I now see full screen on my TV.
- everything works.

hmm... I tried all the above suggestions. And as for your suggestion (Brad Nailer), my TV set just turns black when I set it to automatic although my Television is a 1080 pixel TV. The Apple TV menu shows up just fine...
Same problem for me. Nothing helps.
Apple TV menue, movies etc. get displayed correctly. Just Airplay doesn't work as it should do.
I think we need to wait for a software-updates, which hopefully fixes this. I don't think it has something to do with TVs.
I unchecked the "Overscan correction" tab from System Preferences > Display and mow it works perfect. This only showes up while Airplay is already running.
This doesn't seem to work for me. THIS AND WIFI IS REALLY CUTTING IT FOR ME. This was the feature that I was hoping would complete my macbook but now... even with wifi problems. ugh mountain lion is hibernating even though mountain lions aren't supposed to hibernate.

What you can do is connect ur apple tv to ur mac via ethernet cable. u can still use wifi on the mac and there is no lag betweenur mac screen an the mirrored screen. hopes thids helps!
