According to the Technical Specifications: http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/ AirPlay Mirroring should work for me, but it doesn't.
I have a MacBook Pro from early 2011 and an Apple TV 2 but there is no sign of AirPlay Mirroring anywhere on my MacBook. What gives? This was THE reason that I upgraded to Mountain Lion and according to Apple's web page, it should work but it does not.
Anyone have any info on this???

That model has Thunderbolt, Airplay should work.
Did you enable it under Display preferences / Display? There should be a checkbox there
It's not there, no icon on the top of the screen. Nothing.
i have the same problem as the original post i too also have a macbook pro early 2011 with thunderbolt and an apple tv 2. Mine states its not detected in the display preference and that message is greyed out. I can go to itunes and detect my atv2 but the airplay mirror.
So.... Apparently the information I have is false. Although I thought I have an early 2011 model, Apple says it's actually mid 2010 and no AirPlay Mirroring for me.
It's not Thunderbolt, it's Intel HD Graphics.
If you have nVidia or ATI/AMD graphics (About This Mac > More Info), you do not have the proper hardware.
I have the same problem. I do have Intel HD Graphics but I don't have Airplay showing up on my menu bar, or in Display preferences? Help?
