Apple Remote, menu button, Front Row

I bought a MacBook Pro a few months back, and I paid extra to get it with the Apple Remote as seen here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC377LL/A . It says in the overview that it lets you use "Front Row" by pressing the Menu button on the remote to access iTunes content from afar, and it says it works on Macs made after 2005 with an IR port (which my MBP definately is).

So when I press the Menu button, nothing happens. No Front Row. Was this false advertising or is something wrong? I would contact the Apple Store or tech support but apparently I'm out of coverage. So how can I get it working? I upgraded to Mountain Lion and it still doesn't work. Any hope?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

see if your ir remote is enabled in your macbook.

system preferences - security and privacy - advance.......

or maybe your remote battery is dead?

anything is possible...

The remote is new. It changes volume just fine. Pushing the Play button plays iTunes music. It's like Front Row doesn't exist, despite what was advertised on the Apple Store.

i see.....I have one of those remotes....Not sure why I bought one.....Never even tried using it....

In my case, battery is probably dead since i've had it for years now...

I don't know why it says that my problem is solved, I did not do that. To repeat: The remote works fine, but the Menu button doesn't do anything.

Hello, note that many remote abilities have been removed with Mountain Lion.

For example the Menu boutton is useless😠

Front row has been remove from Mac OS X therefore as metioned above the Menu button is rendered useless... however this may not be the case if using it with DVD Player

Not completely useless. While on a slideshow on Keynote, when the Menu button is pressed, a preview of the subsequent slides is shown so that one can change to the desired slide.
