Could not sign in to iMessage, Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion, and am setting up Messages.

I works fine on my iMac, but I cannot sign in on my MacBook Air. It just returns the message: Could not sign in to iMessage, Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.

I have been using the beta version of Messages for quite some time, with no problems at all on both my iMac and MacBook Air.

Any Ideas?

iMac and MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

HI,

We are seeing a lot of this and it may well be an issue to do with the servers being busy with the Mountain Lion release.

Did you have this working in Messages beta ?

If you have added the Apple ID you want to use to iOS devices first then remove it and try Messages "first" as it were.

Also try going to Activity Monitor and using the Quit button after highlight IMAgent.

Restart the computer after this despite the fact IMagent respawns

Thanks Ralph

I've been using the beta version for quite some time, with no problems at all, with both my iMac and MacBook Air, and with my iPhone.

I have tried to sign off Messages on both by iMac and iPhone, and quit IMAgent on my MacBook Air, which immediately re-spawned, and rebooted the MacBook Air. Unfortunately it did not help. The iPhone and iMac could log in again with no problems, but my MacBook Air still cannot.

I also tried with firewall switched off, with no luck.

I also looked at the Console when trying to log in, and IMAgent presents some warnings, but my iMac - where it works - presents the same warnings.

Hi,

I do think that FishComputer has the idea right in the first place and that waiting maybe the only answer at present.

i also had been experiencing the same "Could not sign into iMessage. Please check network setting and try again." issue. i finally solved my problem after talking to the Apple Tech Support team.

1. Shut down laptop.

2. Switch on laptop again. immediately hold down the LEFT "SHIFT" key until u get into the log in screen. By doing this, ur laptop will be in "Safe Boot" mode.

3. Sign into iMessage using Apple ID. (i was able to sign into iMessage for the first time on my Mac since getting ML)

4. Shut down laptop again.

5. This time switch laptop on normally.

6. You should be able to use iMessage normally.

in addition, ensure date & time and timezone are 'ticked' to be set automatically.

Hope this helps. it did for me!

Cheers

FYI in my case, the default keychain got corrupted somehow. To fix this, open up the Keychain Access app in the /Applications/Utilities folder, click Keychain Access next to the apple (top left) Preferences, and click "Reset My Default Keychain". Worked like a charm, also fixed my problems accessing some Samba (windows) shares. Please note you will be asked for any saved passwords that you had in the keychain. Good luck!

HI

I see the later answer of starting in Safe Mode has solved it for you.

Hi,

It is not so much that it is a "Bug" in the full sense of the word, more that many people have set ups in Lion that Apple have been unable to predict or test for when Upgrading to Mountain Lion.

At present there does not appear to be a clear reason for this iMessage Registration issue.

Most common seems to be some issue with older Apple IDs ending in @mac.com

I see that all of your problem's got solved here, but mine still keeps giving me the same error: "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again."

This is what I did so far:

1. I turned my laptop in safe mode, tried to log in message, still same error.

2. I went to keychain and reseted my keychain, it told me that it created a new keychain for me. still didnt work.

Hi,

Try using the "Contact Support" option on the iTunes page.

A jump in point is here https://expresslane.apple.com/Issues.action

Choose "Account Management"

In the right hand pane chose "Account has been Disabled of Security Reasons

Press the Continue button when it appears

This will take you to a page that has an email Link

Write to Support explaining your Apple ID logins in some places but cannot be "registered" for iMessages
