iPad 3 camera not working

Hello.. Just bought an iPad 3..

Just installed it and now when i open the camera, the schutter stays closed and i can't press any button. Also Photo booth is having issues. When i open it, the curtain opens and closes all the time, but won't open the app.

I've tried to close the Apps by doubletapping home button, hold app button and shut off.. Didn't help.

I've tried the hard reset by holding sleep and home button for ten seconds till logo appeard. Didn't help.

I've reïnstalled the iPad. Didn't help!!

Is there anybody who experienced the problems? Anybody with a sollution?

When you are re-installing the iPad, make sure you are not restoring from a back-up. If you are restoring from a back-up, that will just put the bad firmware back on the iPad. The importance here seems to be getting rid of that software and/or firmware problem. So, connect your iPad to iTunes, then click on the iPad in the sidebar, and choose the "Restore" button. Additionally, when that is finished, don't use the back-up iTunes has stored. (You can remove the back-up in iTunes Preferences>Devices and then select and delete the iPad backup you have stored there.

The best explanation I've heard is that the software (iOS) communcates with the hardware (i.e., the camera) via the firmware. If you just restore from back-up, that doesn't replace or update the firmware.

I hope this helps!

Yes, if you go to the store, they will do what I informed you of in the earlier answer with a fresh copy of the iOS on their computer. Rarely will they sit with you at your computer and actually walk you through downloading the new version of the iOS for times sake.

If you want to manually force iTunes to download the iOS update again, you can delete the downloaded iOS update file.

Here is a website that explains where the files are located: http://osxdaily.com/2010/12/08/ipsw-file-location-mac-and-windows/

You have been lucky. I have the same problem as you described and tried the solution proposed by Franklin Graves. After re-installation, the rear camera started to work but when trying to use the front camera it freezes and the Photo Booth Curtain keeps opening and closing. The front camera show the closed aperture and nothing happens. May be you or Franklin could assist. Thanks ver much

restored my ipad 3 and deleted all back ups to prevent incorrect settings of firmware from getting reloaded. ipad has gone back to how it came brand new, yet the back camera still doesnt work. However, issue with curtain opening and closing in photo booth now is resolved.

Still awaiting resolution for the back camera!!! Can anyone help please!!!!!

My iPad camera has been working fine until recently I noticed that the lens reveals a shadow line during FaceTime (as well as when I use the camera). This shadow line causes a slight blurry area which is evident when I do FaceTime and can be seen by the party on the other end. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?? I'd really appreciate any advice!!

Try to go into a different camera app; instagram, facebook, etc. Check to see if you can take pictures that way. If you can, then do the soft reset by holding down the sleep and home button until you see the apple icon. Then let it restart itself. Try loading your camera and photo booth and see if that helps. That got ours to work!!

Good luck!!
