    gnuyogaI had the same problem with "blank" areas in Google Reader / mail.


    Than I found out via Disk Utility -> Verify Disk that I had ONE big file (eyeTV recording) with a bad block count. After booting from the recovery partition and repairing the disk, all these Safari problems are gone. Very odd!


    So my recommendation: use Disk Utility and check if this helps..

    Just for FYI, disk repairs do nothing. AND, I've now verified that this happens right out of the box without any third party apps, and across a few different rMBPs. This is definitely Apple at their very worst. Six months of this is absolutely obscene. THE worst quality control imaginable.

    Yup, disk repair did nothing on my end either.  I find it pretty remarkable that this is still an issue.

    Curious, have you seen this on fresh Mountain Lion installs and upgrades from Lion?  I see it on my upgraded MBP, but not on my new iMac which is a fresh install.  Curious.

    I experienced the issue out of the box on my rMBP, which came with Mountain Lion installed.


    My old MBP (mid-2008), which I upgraded to Mountain Lion, never had this problem.

    The issue does appear to be intermittent, works fine for hours, and then it's restart.


    It's particularly bad when applications such as NetNewsWire (also uses Webkit are running). NetNewsWire can also be sluggish if Safari is running


    I have also had similar. if not as often responses with Chrome

    I've not seen a single one of these issues with Chrome. Also, while this is one of the more prominent threads on this atrocious Apple oversite, I'm not convinced this is specific to a Javascript bug as the title implies. I'm seeing issues across the board: CSS rendering, GIF rendering, corrupt browser history, etc.

    Same here: no issues with Chrome.  I've been using it pretty much exclusively these past few weeks, which is a shame.  I really would like to hae all of my tabs available across devices in the cloud.  (Yes, I know I can do this with the Chrome app on iOS, but I'm not particularly interested in signing into a Chrome account across all of these devices and giving Google further access into my life.)


    I hope Safari's fixed one of these days, but I wasn't heartened by my last AppleCare chat -- they didn't offer any ideas, or even to replace my then-new Mac.  Just said they were aware there's an issue.

    You wouldn't want to replace it anyways, trust me. These symptoms have occurred across 4 different rMBPs.

    Same problem here. Apple replaced 2 MBP with solid state drives for me before admitting it was a problem. As of today they still have not released a fix. The iPhone 5 64GB has SIM card problems. Not sure when Apple intends to fix these things but they need to do it sooner rather than later

      As a layman, I took the plunge and switched to Mac because all my Mac-owning friends told me how much they loved them, how stable they are, how they never have problems, ect.


    So imagine how I feel, having spent what seemed like a small fortune compared to a PC, having to struggle through all the new proceedures and formats, only to experience these crude and sophmoric-seeming problems when surfing the web.  Websites freak out and fragment, when typing text, it starts skipping letters, finger-swiping between pages produces irratic results...


    Knowing nothing about the fact that others were having the same problems, I called Mac support for the very first time today, and basically the fellow mumbled something about them knowing about the problems, they were working on a fix.....and that was pretty much it.  No help at all, and with the implcation that I'd just have to cool my heels until....some undefined time in the future ?


      Really, I go against all the advice of my PC friends, make the switch to Mac, and this is my reward ?


      How Apple can release machines at these prices yet with these sorts of obvious problems is beyond me.

    Birdboy: I'm pretty frustrated about these Safari issues, but considering that I have a free alternative at my disposal (Chrome), I don't think I'd make the jump to Windows or Linux, even if Safari remains forever boned.


    But I certainly feel for you that your significant and costly upgrade is failing you in this way.

    Birdboy, I feel your frustration with this issue, but believe me you don't want to go back to Windows. I have been a Windows user all my life and the Mac is way ahead. But if you insist you can always install Virtualbox and Windows and use ughhhh Internet Explorer with it. I run Windows with Virtualbox on my Mac as a separate virtual machine. I only use it when some client needs me to do something specific to Windows.


    Use Chrome for now and we just need to send them emails.

  • aekiameh Level 1 Level 1 (0 points) much longer do we have to deal with this. I don't want to use Chrome or Firefox, Safari suits me just fine. But this is getting ridiculous! Most of the time I can't open any page, do anything without the screen messing up. Please fix this, or tells us what we can do to fix this forever!
