iMessage and iChat
Noticed iChat is gone. How do I connect now that I am on ML and my relatives in the UK are still on Leopard with iChat ?
I'm not even sure they have Facetime for video chat so how do I chat with them via video ?

Messages is the same as iChat, it is just slightly redesigned and now supports iMessages. If you sign in with your IM accounts and then go to Window>Buddy List you will have the same functionality as iChat.
Thanks I will check that out. Presumably, my relatives on iChat will be able to connect with me at this end with iMessage ( me using iMessage and them using iChat ) ?
Well, not using the iMessage service. iChat has been renamed Messages (Messages is the name of the app, iMessage is the name of Apple's free service). So if you sign into your IM accounts in the messages app, it will be just as if you were using iChat. So yes, you would be able to connect with them.
Perfect. Thanks A.
I ran across this thread. This is not working for me. The messages I send through iMessage to my friend with Lion only go to his iPhone, not his computer , which is running Lion. What did you do to make this work?
