Q: Question about Selling Logic Express 9

I gave my macbook pro away as a gift and am now going to sell Logic Express 9.

I realize I won't get much for it, but how do I go about selling this regarding registry transfer?

thanks for any help!

You can start by checking the EULA (http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/logicexpress.pdf), but basically you just need to make sure that LE9 is deleted from the MacBook Pro and you give all the installation discs, manuals, and serial numbers to the buyer.  This is the proper, legal way to do it.

Registration is optional and doesn't really play any legal role in purchasing or transferring a license.  Having said that, if you have registered LE9 and the buyer tries to register it after purchasing from you, Apple will have questions.  If you think the buyer will want to register LE9 then you will have to call Apple support to confirm the sale & transfer.  Again, registration is optional and not required for a legal sale/transfer of a license (as long as you delete your copy).

Guitartist, I read the ULA, and discovered a little section that says you can't sell a version if you've updated it to a newer one. I don't think this has anything to do with registering, since you have to enter the Serial # of the older one, in order to install the newer one. Do you know if this as it reads? I had wanted to sell my Version 8, since I've now updated to 9, but according to this I can't. I'd hate to sell it, only to find the person can't use it, due to some block on the serial number. Or would that matter, as long as he doesn't buy an update??

Generally speaking, if you have AnySoftware v.8 (for example) and buy an "upgrade" to AnySoftware v.9, you will need to enter your v.8 serial number during installation and you cannot sell your v.8.  You paid a lower price for your v.9 upgrade because you previously paid full price for v.8 so the two licenses are tied together.

If on the other hand you for whatever reason purchased a full license of AnySoftware v.9 and paid full price for it, it is not connected to v.8.  You will not need to enter the v.8 serial number during installation and are free to transfer the license.  (You may need to uninstall v.8 in order to install v.9, however.)

In other words, if you bought an LE9 Upgrade you need to enter your LE8 serial number during installation and cannot transfer your LE8 license.  The lower price of the LE9 Upgrade is dependent upon your full LE8 license.
