Q: QTKitServer-(326) QuickLook Satellite-general

I am not really sure what's causing this but every time I start my MacBook Pro I get at least 2 processes with this name that keep my processor at at 100% and more. It only happens on my MacBook Pro and I noticed this after I updated to Mountain Lion the other day. There is no trace of these on my iMac though also updated to Mountain Lion.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion, 2.2 GHz, Core i7 15"

Really good advice. This has fixed my problem It confirmed DraftSight was the culprit.

I deleted the DraftSight qlgenerator and all is well with my Mac again.

    Thanks

Same thing here. I deleted the QuickLook generator from the above folder and immediately my issues were solved. Thanks for the pointer!

I experience the same problem all the time, with the QuickLook Satellite - general. I've noticed that it happens everytime I download an image from the internet, either by dragging it to my desktop or right clicking and saving as.

    Draftsight plug-in!!!!

Thank you so much. This was driving me to distraction/nuts/crazy. Considered using my pro as a frisbee.

    Thanks.

Thank you guys A LOT for solving this... I've been going up and down google for ages, trying to figure this out. Even called Apple support but I have to say here they weren't helpful at all. It seemed their strategy would have been to reinstall OSX.

And the other traces on google led me to converting all my .flv clips to mp4s, putting all movies on a seperate hard drive and so on.... what a pain.

So I can confirm too that deleting the DraftSight qlgenerator did the trick. Maybe I'll write a mail to 3ds so they bring an update on DraftSight thats solves the issue.

    Thx again

Terrific response, which solved my CPU issues by deleting all of DraftSight. Don't bother trying to contact Dassault Systems, the author of the offending software. I tried several times to report this as a bug using various methods. The response was usually from someone appalled that I would contact the wrong department "Support". The follow-up was to ask for my credit card to pay them for extended support to "solve my problem".

I get it. DraftSight is free, but I have other forms of industrial, CAD software, so it's expendable. It was nice for a quick preview of DWG files. SolidWorks & AutoCAD WS, are pretty slow for preview, but the CPU issue was too much for me.

    Glad I found this thread.

I installed ARES Commander CAD and things started to go haywire with the fans running flat out.  Checked the processes and found the QuicklookSatellite_Legacy process going nuts at near 400%.

    /Applications/ARES Commander Edition.app/Contents/Library/QuickLook/FxQuickLookDrawing.qlgenerator/Contents/ MacOS/FxQuickLookDrawing

Deleted the qlgenerator and the problem was solved.

The common thread in this is 3DCAD previews.  Not something I need anyway.

    Cheers

    Chris

Looks like CAD programs (probably a lot of them ported from a junk version from another platform) seem to be common culprits. Corel CAD, apart from being a piece of trash, also had a quicklook process running that was causing the QuickLookSatellite-legacy to run at over 100%. I quickly uninstalled this and after a restart, the problem is gone. Also found abrick to smack myself in the head with the next time I think of installing anything from Corel, AutoDesk, and the like.

In 20123 haven't we moved beyond this kind of crapware? Surely there is a big opportunity for a smart CAD software developer to create a native 3D CAD app. Just about to head over to the AppStore to submit feedback on Corel CAD.

    Hi David S.

I've had the same problem with too much CPU activity dedicated to just this DraftSight plugin, especially after reinstalling the Draft Sight recently.

After reading your response, iI've searched and isolated the GL plugin. Now the problem is solved, and my CPU works normally again. So, many thanks for your help :-)

    All the best

    Dennis

An update - Problem still not fixed

I have just installed DraftSight Service pack V1 R3.1 and it includes a new FxQuicklookDrawing module dated 28 Dec 2012.

The QL Satellite problem is still present and 100% CPU process kicks in again. If you install the service pack you'll have to delete the QL module again as per above instructions.

    regards

Thanks for the help worked perfectly,

Deleted the file /Applications/DraftSight.app/Contents/Library/QuickLook/FxQuickLookDrawing.qlgen erator and my machine is back to normal.

My CPU did not enjoy that experience. Hopefully they fix that bug.
