I want to be able to add together consecutive cells, hold that amount, and then add it to another cell that is not connected to the first cells. How can I do that?

You can use the sum funtion to add (non) contiguous cells by providing a comma separated list of references.

E.g.

A1=sum(a4:c4, b2)

Will sum the cells in the range from a4 to c4 with the cell b2
