Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

I personally think the UI lagging bug is a serious issue on rMBP because this machine cost $2000 and up and it lags on UI features such as Mission Control and Space Switching while classic Macbook pros don't. I do understand that the retina display models carries a high resolution display, but I think the quad core CPU should have the ability to handle it (please correct me if I am wrong)

I am hoping and asking anyone experiencing the issue to follow up with this thread and post your concerns. Let's hope for a fix soon and we can really enjoy the beauty a Retina Macbook Pro brings to us.

Hi Wayne,

Did you use the Terminal instructions (on this thread, I think) to check which manufacturer your screen is? Did you have it replaced once already? Did they swap an LG for an LG?!

Thankfully my new screen is a Samsung, hopefully there won't be ghosting problems cropping up in a few months ...

My machine is ready to pick up after its "tune up/diagnostic" or whatever. I'm assuming nothing was found, which is to be expected if it's a software problem. I'll report in if there's anything interesting.

@ALL desperate rMBP users

I feel now really happy after almost 1 year waiting to see my rMBP perform as i expected when i bought a 2200€ machine:D
I have set up a dual boot of OS X 10.8.4 and another operating system, i am not allowed to refer to..it's pretty new, introduced on June 10 this year;)

I used it for like 15min, but i can say that Safari is amazing, mission control great, Eclipse is finally usable.

I wanted to send in my rMBP 15" Basic for a "repair", but now i do not have to.

Now i really love my macbook.

Either do as i did or wait for an official release of THAT operation system;)

Well, I'm back from the Apple store and guess what? New logic board.

That's right! Despite the claims from the "genius" that my computer was performing "within specs," the logic board was replaced nonetheless. Wayne, it sounds similar to what you've been through.

If software really is the fix, great. But what really makes me mad is an arrogant "genius" making me feel like my complaints aren't legitimate at all, only for the logic board to be replaced anyway.

Needless to say, my computer is no different. Still super laggy and slow. Don't know what to do, other than wait for the Fall, PAY for a new OS, and have a 1.5-year old computer that never worked properly in the first 1.5 years. Bah!!

I imagine what disappointing and frustrating this situation after a logic board replacement.

I also see some lag in very concret tasks, which usually, I can not reproduce too much. For me the laptop is working, with details to improve which, for sure, they are not reasonable for a 3k$ pc, but it's here what I don't understand about your performance. How slow is it? How laggy?

I compared mine with the MPB Mid-2011 with Snow Leopard of my friend and him one is some slower (normal because the generation and OS, but not as much as people say) and even I could say just laggy than ours (first time you show Mission Control, scrolling heavy sites...).

I hope with the new OS these problems get solved and we can enjoy this great machine at full power.

Yep booked in for a genius bar on Monday - I've only had this machine for 3 and a half months, so it's still a problem even with the new machines.

I also took screen shots a while ago with something really strange going on with my messages app;

So I took my rMBP back *again* and the lead "genius" and the store manager both said it was performing "as expected" and "within specs." I asked to have the offsite checkup again, and it came back two days later with a new screen. That's right -- a SECOND new screen for no reason. Needless to say it didn't solve the problems. Is this why Apple is so expensive? Cause they waste money left and right on repairs that aren't needed? Unbelievable.

I was offered AppleCare for 50% off, so I had to buy the extended warranty to cover a defective product. Amazing. Now I have another 2 years of coverage, but I'm angry that I had to pay for it.

Got my machine back from apple today, as predicted they took out the LG screen for a Samsung...

As with other people, the genius in his best english suggested that the animations are fine and not a problem. He even tried to show me with a couple of windows open initiating mission control.... then I opened a few more and the lag then showed.

We should definitely get a free upgrade to mavericks

Hi guys,

Just wanted to tell you I have a dual boot of Mountain Lion and "another" newer OS (yes you know what i'm talking about) and the improvents are notorious.

I only get lag when using mission control while a webpage is loading and Safari, but the rest of the time it sees Ok. ALso, web page scrolling in safari is much much better.

Hope that final version of the "top gun" OS solves all problems for us all

just my two cents

cheers

I just upgraded to MBPr 15" 16gb Early 2013 from a 13" MBP Early 2011. But very dissapointed on the UI lagging issue. Mission Control and Full Screen Apps Swipe lag is clearly can be seen. But not in my old 13" MBP model.

I noticed this is happen when the system using the Built in HD4000 Graphic mode. When i untick the Automatic Graphic Switching under the Energy Saver. The UI worked like a charm. But it will definitely decrease battery life as it will run to the Higher Graphic modes which is NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M.

Is this Problems faced by All MBPr 15" users or it only happen to some of the lucky users? Hope Apple will solve this issue when upgraded to OSX Maverick soon. This high end model of Apple Macbook Pro shouldn't have this kind of problems.

Cheers.!

Anyone tried the upcoming patch for Mac OSX, 10.8.5 the latest developer release has build number 12F17.

According to the release notes, OS X 10.8.5 comes with no known issues, with Apple requesting developers concentrate on Graphics, Wi-fi, Wake, and Accessibility, among other features. The latest 12F17 is the third build to be seeded since Apple released the first 10.8.5 beta in June.
