Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

I've seen so I know. It was much worse than Mavericks but it doesn't mean it's ok now. It's not.

I have a 15 rMBP and no lag. There was a lag in safari with pdf, but removed AdobeReader.plugin and now everything is butter smooth.

I mean everything, could anyone tell me where to fing something laggy?

It may be connected to the laggy everything after installaling OS X 10.9.2.

yep, i have the same thing as well, just checked. and this was present on 10.9.1

Also, does any of you guys have lags on while watching online videos? i find youtube quite choppy

Ok guys, I was just on the phone with applecare, and i was using a program to share my screen with an advisor. He did some research on our problem, and it appears that Apple indeed knows of it and is working on a solution that is going to be implemented in upcoming updates. It is a SOFTWARE-RELATED issue, now we know for sure. I'm definitely not selling or returning my MBPr, as overall it's a great computer worth every dollar.

Guys I have the mbpr (2.6ghz,8gb,gt650m) and while the machine was sharp and healthy one day it started having the lags...Mission control, safari even the little pop on when you place the mouse above an app...I'm posting this because I believe I found the solution while searching on another forum...I downloaded xbench and run solely a gpu test and an interface test. The lag is vanished really...Try it!

I hope you are right. Seriously. Since i bought my rMBP - Late 2012, lag was always present since day one.. Not in every app but i expected so much more from this machine.. even scrolling trough certain website or apps (Eclipse, Netbeans) is slugish and choppy. Unnaceptable. Sometimes I think that my 2010 ASUS is faster than my +3000$ MacBook Pro.

Apple please fix this fors god's sake.

how about getting our macs replaced if the issue won't be solved with the upcoming update?

Conze, not sure if you've backed up and read the countless thousands of posts prior to your own. I've been following this thread for two years, let me tell you; not only has apple replaced myotherboard three times and swapped me out for a brand new computer, but I've spoken to countless Genius Bar techs, been on the phone with senior advisors even an engineer...no one, NOBODY gave me a viable solution. They basically closed the door on me and said "sorry kid, we did our best, now stop wasting our time."

Furious, I sold my 15" rMBP to my brother in law and bought a top end MacBook Air instead. Sure I was happy with the smooth scrolling, but I just couldn't stand a non-retina display anymore.

Just my luck, the FaceTime camera died on the rMBP I sold my bro in law. He took it in and got it replaced, and I swear to my grave the new screen fixed it. He got a Samsung display and I swear with my soul the machine runs flawlessly.

Some of you have said the same story as mine and had no improvements to the display performance. My first theory is that each rMBP's video card was designed for a specific screen, either an LG or Samsung. The other theory is perhaps the screen's control board may be faulty when there's lag, and that the screen should be replaced until a good one is installed.

Bottom line: my bro's (formerly mine) rMBP is cured. The machine is sensational with complete butter smooth graphics and scrolling (except PDF files...c'mon Adobe, fix that lag )

For the record, I have reacquired a 13" Retina MacBook Pro (late 2013) and for the most part, it is running smoothly. No lego blocks, no major lag. Runs better on a Thunderbolt display (especially when I'm resizing thumbnails in iPhoto or scolling in Photoshop) but essentially acceptable in terms screen performance.

I dont really agree with your story.. but try to run a full screen XCode in your rMBP 13 full of code and tell me that doesn't lag, or try to scroll on iTunes albums.

There is a serious problem in the optimization on the OS and on some apps. That's the problem, not video-cards designed for specific screens...

With this, i'm being tired of waiting for a fix that i expected to NOT HAVE when I paid for a premium laptop that runs worst than a 500$ laptop in some tasks.

And the curious is why the Retina iPad with a big resolution can handle all things smoothly (without lag) with a poor GPU compared to a dedicated GPU in rMBP.

Optimization problems? YES, ofc.

jffluis, you can rant all you want, I don't think anyone on this thread has gone through more than me, or have had more experience in dealing with this lag issue than I have. Get in touch with an Apple engineer, and then rant later. iTunes Albums view? The initial "lag" is the load time for each thumbnail. Once cached, it scrolls smoothly. And I know that my 13" rMBP scrolls completely differently than my nightmarish 15" rMBP. It may not be "butter" smooth, but there's definitely no lag or lego blocks. All websites scroll smoothly, and more importantly, iPhoto thumbnails scroll smoothly. I have 15,000 photos in my library and I know 1000% that its smooth. I'm convinced that there is a mismatch or assembly dysfunction between the screen and the video card. Because how can I explain my brother-in-law's 15" rMBP going from lemon to near perfection with a simple screen swap??

And why does a Retina iPad run smoother than a Retina MacBook Pro? Simple: iOS 7.1 is only 3 or 4 GB in size and far fewer algorthims to calculate, running one dedicated app at a time. Mac OS X Mavericks is running 1000+ processes all at once to meet the demands of multitasking and simultaneous app performance.
