Q: Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

I personally think the UI lagging bug is a serious issue on rMBP because this machine cost $2000 and up and it lags on UI features such as Mission Control and Space Switching while classic Macbook pros don't. I do understand that the retina display models carries a high resolution display, but I think the quad core CPU should have the ability to handle it (please correct me if I am wrong)

I am hoping and asking anyone experiencing the issue to follow up with this thread and post your concerns. Let's hope for a fix soon and we can really enjoy the beauty a Retina Macbook Pro brings to us.

I just get a rMBP and clearly even if only the nvidia GPU active it's really laggy compared to my previous MBP.

There is really no fix for this ?

    "...really laggy..."

How is it? I can notice a little bit lag the first time I active exposure (4 fingers up), after is running smooth (even with the Intel one). I have also noticed this on the MBP 2011 of my mate with 10.7.

A place where you can see this lag pretty clear is using iCalendar at the moment when you pass the months with the animation...

I see lag when swtiching of fullscreen app, I use only fullscreen app, and switching to differents app is laggy related to my previous MBP.

    Hey, check this out!

    http://www.guiguan.net/fix-mac-os-x-mountain-lion-laggychoppy-animations/

I found this, and no joke, fixed it completely. Kudos to whoever figured it out.  I literally just opened AutoCad 2013, let it load fully, then quit it from the menu.  Try it with a lot of your performance heavy applications to see if it works.  From what I've seen/read, common ones are AutoCad 2013, Final Cut, and Photoshop.

    Hope it helps!

Sorry this is old news. After a few minutes or after running several apps simultaneously, all the lagginess returns.

So far the only thing that really works is 10.8.4 running the discreet processor. You can turn it on permanently but checking off "Automatic Graphics Switching" in Energy Settings.

Install CUDA 5.0.9 drivers from Nvidia, and then turn off Automatic Graphics Switching, see if that helps.

I swear to god, my rMBP is running extremely faster under 10.8.4. Granted I turned off Automatic Graphics Switching. I'm leaving the laptop run on the Nvidia GPU. YES the battery drains a little faster, but for me I really don't care. I feel my laptop has been cured!

All they need to work on now is the Intel GPU.

Yeah thats the one Wayne is talking about. I have seen slight improvement with the Nvidia card when I turn off Automatic Graphics switching after installing 10.8.4. However, I haven't installed the CUDA drivers and may do that tonight. I have discovered that my dock is causing a majority of my lag when switching from a full screen app to my desktop, also when entering Mission Control. I have found some workarounds to reduce the lag caused by the dock by making it a 2D dock with transparency effect compared to the default 3D dock. I did this by using Onyx, or you can just move the dock to the right or left side of the screen and it will automatically be changed to this 2D dock. It also helps to hide the dock using the setting in System Preferences>Dock.

Well, i already installed OS X10.8.4 with Nvidia Cuda 5.0.59, the improvements are barely noticeable, if at all, running in both Discrete or Integrated.

While in Mission control and Lauchpad (repeatedly making the animation) i pratically reach 60fps with Discrete card with Integrated i reach between 40fps and 50fps for Lauchpad and between 50 and 60 for Mission Control.

Resizing apps windows like Notes or Safari i get between 15fps and 30fps, it really lags especially Notes, that i don't know why but i get better results (3 or 4 more fps) with Integrated than with Discrete.

Safari, scrolling through Facebook i get between 30 and 50 fps with both cards but i notice Discrete runs more fluid most of the time. Scrolling through a web page it usually reach 50fps with Integrated and a little above about 55 with Discrete.

I wasn't hoping for a fix with 10.8.4., i will wait untill 10.9 to make a clean install, but i'm taking this machine back to apple for fixing after new RMBP is anounced. Too many issues, screen issues, speakers issues, lagging issues, and lately i did get 3 frezzes with two unespected reboots (i think people call them Kernell Panic issues) and one freeze up saying the OS X disc was full when i have almost 200gb free from 250gb. This while working with Illustrator, it costed me 2 hours of work, since AI doesn't have autosave, and i was too hooked on the worked itself to think about saving.

I want a  2500€ worth machine, one way or another.

Sorry to see that this update didn't help. I just returned my rMBP and got my "regular" MBP. I miss the great depth and resolution, but noe I finally can enjoy using Renoise in full screen again, so that works for me.

    Good luck y'all!
