Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

I personally think the UI lagging bug is a serious issue on rMBP because this machine cost $2000 and up and it lags on UI features such as Mission Control and Space Switching while classic Macbook pros don't. I do understand that the retina display models carries a high resolution display, but I think the quad core CPU should have the ability to handle it (please correct me if I am wrong)

I am hoping and asking anyone experiencing the issue to follow up with this thread and post your concerns. Let's hope for a fix soon and we can really enjoy the beauty a Retina Macbook Pro brings to us.

Same thing here. Bought my macbook pro retina last week (512 ssd, 2.66ghz, 8 gb ram), it lagged under lion and i truely hoped that the ML update would fix these issues (browsing websites, resizing apps and mission control). it did not, worst: it was better under lion.

a lot of retina owners were lucky with the mountain lion update, and i apart from that thread i did not find a lot of complaints, "unfortunately" for us... but even if we are a minority, we need to be considered by apple.

please give us a fix or a solution !

Looking at the process activity, Windowserver is what handles the drawing of whats on the screen, and it's what runs really high when switching views. Testing back and forth, there is practically zero difference between the intel and nvidia GPUs because the heavy load is happening on the CPU - and pretty much only when going to desktop, not to full screen apps

also, i notice that when giong into mission control, into an app, and then swiping to desktop its smoother than going back and forth between desktop and the app. It seems to "clog" up after doing that a few times, while going into mission control smooths things up a bit. weird.

to add to what I was saying before, kept fiddling with it...

the problem causing the lag is the Dock. I guess it's the high DPI icons + animations all being thrown at the cpu (and not the gpu) that's causing the slow down. Kept testing and I really see zero difference when I change the GPUs. Hiding the dock, however, makes swiping between desktops buttery smooth.

You can force the 650M GT with gfxCardStatus (it's like Disable automatic graphic switching but it also shows which card is used and which application needs it) but the battery is... well... not as good....

So you can make your GUI faster but there is a problem with the HD4000 (Mountain Lion optimisation ? Intel driver ***** ?). But that doesn't change the fact Apple MUST solve this problem...

A little tip :

The line used on a terminal

This changes the duration of the animation.

If you set 2, it's really long and it you set 0.01, it's only 2 FPS.

defaults write com.apple.dock expose-animation-duration -float 0.15

And after this commande, type this to restart the Dock :

killall Dock

It's not a solution, it's just a little tip who can make the LAG more... acceptable...
