Q: Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

Anyone tried the upcoming patch for Mac OSX, 10.8.5 the latest developer release has build number 12F17.

According to the release notes, OS X 10.8.5 comes with no known issues, with Apple requesting developers concentrate on Graphics, Wi-fi, Wake, and Accessibility, among other features. The latest 12F17 is the third build to be seeded since Apple released the first 10.8.5 beta in June.

I have a rMBP 15", 16GB, 2.7Ghz and had no problems in March under 10.8.1 to 10.8.3. But especially under 10.8.4 I notice severe UI lag everywhere. It does not help switching to dedicated GPU only and now the problem even appears on connected external monitors even with low resolutions. This is really bad OS coding or bad graphics drivers.

So bad of Apple. Not a good start with my first MacBook... Do not force me to change to an Samsung Series 7 when it gets Haswell.

Wait for Mavericks, lots of ppl are reporting significant UI improvements for the retina machines.

I agree with cbs20 and i think that this thread is going to be inactive after Mavericks release.
I experienced it myself and I can only confirm the improvements.

I have read all posts in the topic and I need to say a few words. My Retina has Intel Core i7 2.3 GHz and 8 GB if it matters. Unfortunately, since the day I bought the computer the interface is not smooth as I expected. Actually I am a bit lucky because it does not distrub much but... Scrolling in Safari or Firefox makes me sad. FPS are low. This is an known issue. Moreover, I have a little problem while resizing applications, for example App Store. Resizing is perfect in Updates tab but really crappy in Featured. I do not know why. Maybe due to more images? No clue. There is the same situation in Transit (FTP Client) or on several websites in Firefox. I have also installed new OS X 10.9. I am glad Safari is smooth but a few applications are still not Retina ready (Transit again). The new version absolutely improves the quality and animations but does not resolve all problems with resizing.

Not everyone is happy with upgrading and they will wait till the new OSX release matures , think about compatibility issues with thirtparty apps. And above all a new OSX = new features = new bugs.

Well.... hey guys. Just bought a 15 Retina MBP about 3 weeks ago. Started noticing the lag and found this thread. As this is my first Mac ever, I'm quite disappointed. Paid over $2200 for this machine. The word "lag" shouldn't even be in the equation with this mac's specs. I'm hoping it's the software and they can fix it asap. It's been 3 weeks and I can't return my mac anymore, which I would love to do because of this terrible disappointment. Not acceptable. Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave.

Need not to worry. Everything will be just fine this fall. I promise!

I still worry about my interface problem with expanding content with tabs and resizing windows... Mavericks DP3 did not solve third party applications and self resizing.

Patience...give those third parties time and Apple's official release. Then everything will be fine.

I skipped part 2) because I did not have that file. Did this with my rMBP 10.8.4. The file in step 1) was created on June 28. Strange... But now I have not had any UI lag for a week! Original solution was found here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22548555#22548555

Let us hope Maverics will solve most problems. And add the ability to have the lid open (but native screen off) while conected to an external monitor.

This is very old information and many users in this forum have tried that with only temporary success. Just wait for Mavericks.

Uhh dude you are missing something, sleep mode in Macbook pro retina is acually a Standby mode so it needs time to wake up. It usually happens standbys after 30 min or so. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4392

I installed OS X Mavericks Developers' preview 5 on my 15'' MacBook Pro with Retina display and I can confirm that the lag issue is almost gone. It's much, much better. So is he battery life.
