Q: Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

@Christoph, I have the 15" inch version Retina with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB, And tried both the Intel onboard and Geforce settings.

I wil check if i can put a video on youtube. The Apps I use common are Adobe products, Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc. and Google chrome, Firefox.

Ok thats more less the same lag which is present on my machine (2.4GHz/8GB/Mavericks 10.9). For me it is into the tollerance. To compare that, can you try the exact same situation on a non retina model, i have only an MBP 2007 here, let me try with this...

Ok, the old MBP from 2007 has an much faster user interface than the new retina !!! Impossible, but on the realy old machine resizing is much faster anf fluider than on the retina !!! I tink apple has an issue here !!!

I also own a 2012 13" Macbook Air and already tried it with the same software its UI is way faster.

Either Apple has bring out the retinal model to early and the graphic cards are not able to render the things fast enought or it can be solved with via software, what not has working for the newest OS version, and i am hopeless we will ever getthe  UI graphic performance of the cheaper standard MBP or the Air's.

I see I don't need to record my lag. Your UI is so smooth, belive me. ;-) We have to wait for the final release but hey, dont cheat yourself, it's not gonna be fixed.

The OS X Mavericks version in the recorded video is the Golden Master version so 100% sure it wil be the same as the final public version.

I cannot edit my previous post so need to link my video here. The most important part is resizing Firefox. Switching albums in iTunes aren't also smooth like... in Windows. End of my story on the board.

I have just installed the latest official version of Mavericks (released 22/10/2013 - it's free!) - and my OS is BUTTER-smooth. Thanks Apple! (finally *sigh*).

I put my retina on the highest resolution, and it does performs awesome! smooth scrooling, resizing...etc.

Can others confirm ?

Can we actually return the retina and get a replacement (the new retina model with IRIS graphics and Haswell cpus ?)

I upgraded to Mavericks (but haven't upgraded my CUDA drivers yet, thanks for the reminder).

My machine seems to be working better -- scrolling in Google Chrome and even the Apps store is WAY better.  I still have automatic graphics switching turned off.

BUT resizing a column in Numbers (yes, the new Numbers that I updated yesterda too) is still AWFUL.  It is absolutely terrible and pathetically slow. And I mean a tiny spreadsheet with like 100 entries, nothing huge like my research files or anything.

So SOME things seem better, others seem exactly the same to me.

And I love the latest kick in the face by apple -- dropping the price of the new macbook pros by $200

Dropping the price isn't that big of a kick in the face because the baseline 15inch doesn't come with a discrete graphics just the integrated chip. To get the discrete graphics you have to get the high end which is higher priced than the previous baseline model.

What about the screen itself? My brother in law took his 15" retina MacBook Pro into Apple and had it replaced from an LG to a Samsung screen. The difference was night and day. No lag, no Lego blocks. Butter smooth graphics. Even running mountain lion. I've yet to ask whether he's installed Mavericks yet....stand by.
