Q: Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

I personally think the UI lagging bug is a serious issue on rMBP because this machine cost $2000 and up and it lags on UI features such as Mission Control and Space Switching while classic Macbook pros don't. I do understand that the retina display models carries a high resolution display, but I think the quad core CPU should have the ability to handle it (please correct me if I am wrong)

I am hoping and asking anyone experiencing the issue to follow up with this thread and post your concerns. Let's hope for a fix soon and we can really enjoy the beauty a Retina Macbook Pro brings to us.

And why does a Retina iPad run smoother than a Retina MacBook Pro? Simple: iOS 7.1 is only 3 or 4 GB in size and far fewer algorthims to calculate, running one dedicated app at a time. Mac OS X Mavericks is running 1000+ processes all at once to meet the demands of multitasking and simultaneous app performance.

Wayne, if you say it's a hardware/assembly issue, can you screenrecord some of those processes (scrolling iTunes, graphics-heavy websites, flash performance in safari etc.) on your brother-in-law's 15 rmbp and share a youtube link in this discussion? Cause i've been through a lot of pain with my 2012 15' laptop until it got replaced for a brand new late-2013 model from the sealed box, saw the same lag and just humbled. I just can't believe it's a hardware issue by now. A buddy of mine has a base late-2013 model and it lags just as my top-line one.

Once again, from what I learned from endless hours on the phone with apple care, comparisons to other retina macbooks, and 6 repairs at the Store, it is a software issue. So please, can you upload a smooth-performance video on youtube and share a link before i go to Apple Store and ask them to check how well the graphics card is attached to the screen?

just to let u know, my 15' rmbp is a top-notch model with 16 gb ram, 750m graphics and a 2.6 ghz core i7. i simply cannot believe this kind of hardware cannot handle 720p flash videos, scrolling of websites in native resolution and smooth itunes use. it should be way more than enough

there's clearly an optimization problem in the Mac OS which is hard to fix, but Apple is afraid to admit this, cause many people just don't care how smooth the scrolling is. But if they do admit it publicly, and people start digging deeper and looking for the lags, a large amount of returns is just inevitable. It can turn out as a nightmare for Apple

Another issue that I checked is if you lauch QuickTime Play and record your own screen if you record with HiDPi mode (1440x900) the record fps and previewing is about 15-20 fps and if you record at 1440x900 non-HiDPi is smooth as butter recording an watching the video.

So much optimizations problems. Please Apple fix this annoying problem I want to work properly with my laptop.

Don't listen to CT he has been posting can't confirm in this thread from the start. It's true the system lags because it is recording in non-HiDPI so the video is also being converted from HiDPI to non-HiDPI while recording. This causes the lag and is an optimization issue. This feature has been improved in Mavericks, but still needs some work.

Hey i guys i am an owner of a early 13" rMBP with the intel 4000hd - 8gb - 256 ssd - 2.6 i5. After the mavericks upgrade there has been some improvement but has there a lot of lag when resizing windows, opening launchpad or putting into full screen an app the animation is very slow. More over in one page websites that need scrolling and are kinda "heavy" the lag is tremendous. Is anyone with my kind of laptop having the same issues?

Do you believe i can ask for a replacement? The bad thing is that the new rMCB have an serious price drop so even i wanted to sell it i would lose one **** of a money to compete the new price, and my laptop is not even 9 months old.

and yes i have installed a clear copy of mavericks wiping the complete sdd, resets PRAM etc etc , changed resolutions all the tricks you can find online, but the problem is still there.

Apple must admit the problem with a public announcement and take care of this problem.

Yes you can ask for a replacement. But only after 5 or 6 repairs in the Apple Store, hours on phone with AppleCare and endless arguing with Gen Bar reps and even a store manager, after you are already angry and not willing to accept anything else. And guess what, after a replacement you will be left with the exact same problem, cause it is present in all the retina macbooks. The problem is not related to hardware, i assure you. I had my 15' 2012 rmbp replaced for a late-2013 model with dedicated graphics, and after a couple of days the problem has shown itself on it as well.

However, Apple is indeed working on this. Look at Preview on 10.9.2, for example - it never lags when scrolling to the top or bottom of the page anymore. All we can do for now is wait.

Okay folks. Try this utterly simple suggestion:

Go to System Preferences → Accessibility → Mouse & Trackpad

    Go to Trackpad Options…

Set Scrolling to max speed and 'with inertia'

Restart your MacBook and see if that helps. I swear I've got a 50% improvement in all overall scrolling on my 13" MacBook Retina Late 2013.

On the first build seeded as I know the Yosemite is very unpolished (lags animation glitches etc..). But I hope Apple will fix this annoying problem
