Q: Mountain Lion UI Lag on rMBP !!! (Let's Make this thread serious and hope for a fix)

I personally think the UI lagging bug is a serious issue on rMBP because this machine cost $2000 and up and it lags on UI features such as Mission Control and Space Switching while classic Macbook pros don't. I do understand that the retina display models carries a high resolution display, but I think the quad core CPU should have the ability to handle it (please correct me if I am wrong)

I am hoping and asking anyone experiencing the issue to follow up with this thread and post your concerns. Let's hope for a fix soon and we can really enjoy the beauty a Retina Macbook Pro brings to us.

The stuttering/freezing/lag was driving me so nuts I searched on google to find a way to just shut off the animations altogether.  Come to find out, it's really easy.  Just enter into Terminal the following:   defaults write com.apple.dock expose-animation-duration -int 0; killall Dock

It works for 10.8.1. Now I only experience a very slight pause from time to time but no more stuttering or long freezes... the windows pop up (and disappear) instantly now.  HUGE improvement.  My computer is functional once again!

Seems with the EFI update and 10.8.2 update the lag in finally gone! Loving my rMBP again, too bad it took some time but was worth the wait.

P.s only 10.8.2 didn't solve it, just made it a little less. After installing the EFI update lag is completly gone. They probably tweaked something with

    the graphic cards.

This is a great news! Can others also confirm that the lag is gone now or not? I would consider buying it again. How about the battery runtime? Is it improved as well?

    No, I don't confirm.

    Lags are still there.

I have problem with Wireless network, when i connect my Retina MacBook to Wi-Fi, then all network on all mac's stops working for several minutes

    Same problem 10.8

    Same 10.8.1 and 10.8.2

How can i see background processes for network, how to track my MacBook Retina Wi-Fi connection? if Apple can't fix this i try to do it myself, but my opinion is that this is not my problem for such expensive laptop

That's weird, my laptop is buttersmooth now. You both installed 10.8.2 and the EFI update?

Update did nothing to fix the awful framerate issues when zooming in on webpages with dense advertising and text (like huffington post or macrumors) - that was my main concern the other UI problems were minor and still seem apparent albiet I guess a little smoother.. Come on Apple.

Agreed. Update fixed nothing. Expected more for the kind of money this thing cost.

Yep, it become slightly smoother, but it's not enough!!! I'm thinking that our rMBP has some hardware problem, i'm going to bring it ro repair service (because I can't return it). Or why not everyone saying about such problem ?

P.S. in 10.8.2 nvidia graphic card became work better than intel. But i don't want to work alltime with Nvidia card, i don't want to spent my battery so fast I never can expect that from Apple

no its not just our computers I've had several replacements! My girlfriend has one and my best friend has one - all of them have had these problems - so why is it that some people notice and others dont? Its all perception and expectation, some people are fine with the choppiness or the slight lag, some people dont even notice, maybe they dont zoom in on webpages in safari... what is clear is that this is a widespread problem and either Apple cant fix it due to hardware limitations or not enough people have voiced their dispair for them to use their programmers to fix the issue (like I said before - seems like facebook integration was more imporant for them than UI improvments for all the people with this $3k brick...).

Also my gilrfriend is a architect student - her computer crashes all the time when using autocad and othe design programs that require intensive video card application.. why is this thing called a macbook "pro"?

    it is really terrible...

P.S. the problem still there even in 10.8.2. Take a look for the last seconds in my video, for space above skype's icon. Can you guys confirm the same problem ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHC-6bW0dI4&feature=youtube_gdata_player

10.8.2 do not fix the issues. They say the EFI update fix the freezes. Lags still persist here. Pinch to zoom in a webpage is terrible, web surfing in general is a bad experience. I didn't expect this when I bought this machine. For instance, push the "+" button in Contacts to expand the window is still choppy.

You maybe right, but it's somehow strange if no one list ical with help touch and fingers, or no one maximize contacts window etc... as I show above even in launchpad, mission control everywehre i can see not just lags, i could see gui artefacts. Nearest Apple repair center far from me (~300 km) but I'm going go there, and show them all these issues.
